1. Aggressive visual facelift

If Shelby is most associated with the golden age of muscle cars, it doesn't mean there aren't plans in the future. Staying relevant as a high-performance automaker means more than building a better engine; it means creating an aesthetic that matches the power under the hood. The definition of "cool" is constantly changing, however; this is why Shelby has made a recent move to update the look of the Mustang lineup. A bold aesthetic that emphasizes the grille and body gaps makes the latest update look pretty mean compared to the slick appearance of the classic era.

2. An all-new Mustang GT500

Although the Cobra will come to mind for some, it's the Ford Mustang that Shelby is best-known for. Everyone knows the Mustang, and though it's changed a lot since its 1960s inception, there's a lot to be said for its lasting popularity. The prototype of the Mustang GT500 has been photographed in its test stages. While the prototype itself was covered up to so elude the automotive paparazzi, we've since got a pretty good idea what this new Mustang will look like. For one, it will be the first time the GT500 boasts independent rear suspension. The Mustang lineup as a whole has undergone a general aesthetic facelift with an emphasis on bolder features. While not everyone has been thrilled about the edgier look, the promise of change is a reason to anticipate what things will look like when the redesigned GT500s are cruising in 2018.

3. 50th Anniversary Super Snake

Shelby is always big on their special edition motors; anything from a special anniversary version to that 1967 GT500 that is known as Eleanor in the remake of Gone in 60 Seconds demonstrates they like to sponsor a feeling of exclusivity. The Shelby Super Snake is a classic offshoot in its own right and a 50th anniversary is well-worth celebrating. This special edition model offers a softer visual take on the modern Mustang. This means that anyone who felt put off by the aggressive facelift will still have a 'Stang to look forward to in the coming year. Only 500 of these bad boys will be made, so those who purchase one will have that added bit of prestige to enjoy for themselves.

5. Fresh GT350 and GT350R variants

The GT350, Shelby's naturally-aspirated answer to their GT500 flagship, is also in the works of a fresh release. Unlike the rest of the Mustang family, the GT350 is being reintroduced without the same recent visual stylings, which have garnered a somewhat mixed reception from fans on account of their aggressive tone. Unlike the mean GT500, the GT350 series will continue to excel from humbler roots. It's the perfect alternative for someone who isn't quite sold on the idea of every sports car getting a turbo treatment; fortunately for fans of naturally aspirated engines, the 2018 GT350 will boast Ford's strongest NA engine to date. At a whopping 526 horsepower, critics will have a hard time calling it any lesser than the regular 'Stang.

A GT350R equivalent will also be available at an increased price for the purpose of racing. Carbon fiber components and minimized interior parts will keep the weight as low as possible, helping to ensure that would-be racers will get every last bit of oomph out of the performance.

4. Full-digital LCD displays

It's a small detail, sure, but it's nonetheless interesting to see a classic like the Mustang become updated into the full-digital era. Offered as an optional add-on, a full-digital instrument cluster will allow 2018 buyers to customize the display to their liking.
