In Transformers: The Last Knight (2017), the Decepticon known as Barricade reappeared with a new, sinister look — this time based on a 2016 Ford Mustang GT. The film itself didn’t fare well with critics and is often considered the weakest in the series, despite a $605 million global box office return. However, this particular Mustang managed to stand out with its menacing presence on screen, portraying the villainous cop car with aggressive styling and militaristic details.
From Set Piece to Street Machine
Far from a simple shell or stunt double, the Mustang used in the film is a fully functional, road-going vehicle equipped with a 5.0-liter V8 that delivers 435 horsepower (324 kW) through a six-speed manual transmission. It has just 800 miles (1,287 km) on the odometer, suggesting it saw little use beyond filming. While no performance modifications have been confirmed beyond its factory specs, the car retains the full capabilities of a street-legal muscle car.
Aggressive Styling for the Role
To bring Barricade’s on-screen personality to life, the Mustang received a full custom makeover. The car features a police-style bodykit complete with a push bar, strobe lights, and additional LEDs integrated into the exterior. There are also unique modifications like a vented hood, wide fender flares, an oversized rear wing, and dramatically cut bumpers with exposed wiring, all designed to emphasize a high-tech, ready-to-transform aesthetic.
Police Livery With a Decepticon Twist
One of the most striking visual cues is the Deep Impact Blue paint scheme, paired with white graphics and ominous slogans such as “Keep Calm and Hail Megatron” and “To Punish and Enslave” — a nod to Barricade’s role in the franchise. This sinister livery helps distinguish the car not only from other movie vehicles but also from its own predecessor, a 2007 Saleen Mustang used for the character in earlier Transformers entries.
More Than Just a Car
Included in the sale is a package of Transformers-related memorabilia, which boosts the vehicle’s appeal to collectors. This includes official documentation, some of it signed by director Michael Bay himself. While the car currently doesn’t have a public price listing, documents from a previous sale indicate a purchase price of $131,970. Notably, in 2021, it was part of a four-car bundle from Bay’s personal collection valued at $2 million.
