Head Turner

If you're a company that competes in the automotive aftermarket, you need to do something to draw attention to your products. The best way to do that, at least in our humble opinion, is to build a wicked vehicle guaranteed to turn heads. And that's exactly what Kendall Motor Oil has done with this wild 1967 Shelby-inspired Mustang restomod that will be on display at upcoming Mecum Auctions events.

Giving Them a Platform

"Mecum gives us the platform to talk directly with automotive enthusiasts," said Kendall brand director Jessica Goodman. "Our partnership with Mecum drove us to give something to that audience and we worked with Thompson Street Customs of Denver, Colorado to produce this special Mustang. The Thompsons are SEMA award winners and they were the right people for the build. There were so many vehicle options, but we chose a classic Mustang because they are iconic and we hope this one will really pique the interest of the Mecum audience," she added.

Massive Power

Needless to say, this Mustang speaks to a pretty wide audience, thanks to its wicked high-end street rod looks and what lies under the hood - a 5.0L Coyote V8 packing twin Garrett G-25 660 turbos that help it produce north of 1,000 horsepower. That power flows through a 6R80 transmission back to a 3.73-geared 9-inch rear end.

Totally Custom

Every single inch of this Mustang is custom, including the interior. Like the exterior, the interior retains much of its signature first-gen Mustang style, like the twin-cockpit design of the dash. But the rest is thoroughly modern, with a big screen, custom gauges, massive stereo, and up-to-date climate control system.

Nip and Tuck

The team started out with a Dynacorn body, but added their own custom touches to the mix. The Thompsons cut, welded, and massaged the body, giving it a Shelby look thanks to a twin-nostril hood, blazing red paint, a blended front bumper, blacked-out grille, a full shave and flush, as well as little touches like extended rockers.

Slick Chassis

The slick machine rides on a Roadster Shop Fast Track chassis with Thompson Street Customs custom-designed Raceline 20x12-inch rear and 18x8.5-inch front Monterey Dark Textured Gray wheels with polished lines and lips, wrapped in a set of sticky Toyo 285/20 ZR22 and 215/40 ZR18 tires.

Jaw Dropper

Needless to say, the Kendall Custom Mustang accomplished its mission from its first outing. "It was overly satisfying to actually see something that was a drawing and now the lights are shining on it," said Wright. "It was evident standing around the car at the recent Mecum Auction in Dallas that it's a head-turner. The people walking by would turn, look, and then come over to the Kendall booth. A car like this will create a deeper connection with the brand and the Mecum audience. And it causes some jaws to drop, too," she said.
