Modern Muscle in a Vintage Shell

A meticulously reimagined 1968 Ford Mustang fastback is heading to auction at Mecum’s Florida Summer Special on July 12, and it’s far from your average restomod. With just 2,695 miles since its transformation, this car blends vintage aesthetics with cutting-edge performance hardware. Externally, it sports a striking Gulf Racing livery and hand-built front wheel flares, subtly aggressive yet faithful to its era. Recessed door handles from Kindig-It Design complete the look with a refined custom touch.

Heart of an Aluminator

Powering this beast is Ford’s Aluminator XS, a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 producing over 500 horsepower. Built for endurance and high-revving performance, the engine runs an 11.0:1 compression ratio and features Mahle forged pistons.

Power to the Ground

The powertrain is paired with a Tremec six-speed manual transmission that delivers torque to the rear wheels through an 8.8-inch differential. Sticky BF Goodrich tires wrap around CCW wheels to translate that power into traction.

Built to Corner and Stop

Handling is sharpened by Griggs Racing suspension components, which help the car stay composed through tight turns. Bringing all that momentum to a halt are Wilwood disc brakes, a staple in high-performance builds. A rollcage with removable sidebars has been integrated to boost safety without compromising usability, ensuring protection without interfering with daily drivability.

Modern Comfort

Inside, the Mustang is updated with features designed to make it both livable and functional. The dashboard houses Classic Instruments gauges with bespoke color schemes, while climate control is managed by a Vintage Air HVAC system.

Purposeful Cabin

A Sony audio setup, including a subwoofer, adds modern entertainment to the mix. The cabin is finished with leather-wrapped bucket seats and multi-point harnesses, underscoring the car’s track-inspired character. A fire suppression system rounds out the safety upgrades.
