5 Fastest Ford Production Cars Around the Nürburgring Nordschleife
Not all Ford sports cars have set official Nürburgring lap times, but of those that have, here are the top 5 fastest!
Fastest Fords at the Ring
When it comes to pushing cars to their limits, the Nürburgring Nordschleife stands as the ultimate proving ground. Ford, known for its performance-oriented engineering, has produced several high-powered machines capable of taming this legendary circuit. In this article, we rank the five fastest Ford production cars to ever take on the Green Hell.
Keep in mind, not every exceptional Ford sports car or supercar has had an official Nürburgring lap time set. For example, the mighty second-gen Ford GT is not on that board. And neither are the latest Shelby offerings. But these sports cars do well to showcase Ford's high-performance machines, and none better than their most recent record-setter...
2015 Ford Mustang GT Performance Pack: 8:07
We're starting our rankings at number 5 with the 2015 Ford Mustang GT equipped with the Performance Pack, which set an official lap time of 8 minutes and 7 seconds during an attempt recorded by German magazine Auto Zeitung back in March of 2015. The impressive record was set with Horst von Saurma, former racing driver and automotive journalist behind the wheel.
2016 Ford Focus RS: 8:06.29
Sport Auto Magazine has built a reputation for taking the world's best sports cars to the Nürburgring Nordschleife and recording their best attempts. That's a name that you'll see frequently on any list of fastest lap times at the Green Hell. And this list is no different. At about a second faster than the aforementioned 2015 Mustang GT, the 2016 Ford Focus RS recorded a lap time of 8 minutes and 6.29 seconds, courtesy of the Sport Auto crew and with driver Christian Gebhardt behind the wheel. This lap time was set in January of 2017.
2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1: 7:58.29
The reign of the S550 continued post-facelift, as Sport Auto brought a 2021 Mustang Mach 1 to the Ring for an official attempt in November of 2021, and recorded a lap time that was a healthy 9 or so seconds quicker than what the 2015 model achieved.
2006 Ford GT (MK1): 7:52
The first-generation Ford GT is an iconic sports car from the Blue Oval that has no doubt stood the test of time. And although its successor hasn't set an official lap time at the Nürburgring, the fact that this lap time from back in 2006 is still among the fastest ever recorded from a Ford production car speaks volumes about the performance of the mid-engine Ford. Another lap time set by Sport Auto with Horst Von Saurma as the driver (back when he was still the chief editor there), the Ford GT's 7-minute and 52-second record was the fastest time of any Ford from February of 2006 until very recently...
Ford Mustang GTD: 6:57.685
And that brings us to the trail-blazing Ford Mustang GTD. Designed for optimal performance around the world's toughest of high-performance proving grounds, Ford proudly announced their sub-seven-minute accomplishment with the track-focused Mustang on December 10, 2024. With Ford racing driver Dirk Müller piloting the GTD, Ford managed to bring their fierce competitor to the Green Hell for a mighty lap time of 6 minutes and 57.685 seconds. This makes the GTD not just the fastest Ford production car at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, but also the fastest American car to set a time.
