10 Green Mustangs for St. Patrick's Day
Mercedes are grey, Ferraris are red, but does the Mustang have a signature color? In honor of Saint Patrick's Day we went looking for some pony cars wearing the green.
1. 1968 Ford Mustang GT390 Bullitt
Any thought of green Mustangs almost immediately brings up the Highland Green 1968 GT390 that Steve McQueen drove in Bullitt. In his personal collection, Steve preferred his fast cars in dark colors that wouldn't be as noticeable, like his famously brown Porsche and Ferrari, so chances are he choose this car for the movie himself.
2. 2001 Ford Mustang Bullitt
Ford brought back the dark Highland Green color early in the 21st century, and celebrated it with the Bullitt special edition. The SN-95 was not quite as retro in style as the next generation that was to come, but it was much more of a throwback than the Fox body. They also sold the Bullitt in other colors, but nobody talks about those.
3. 2013 Ford Mustang GT Grabber
Gotta Have It Green isn't quite the same as the 1970 green that came on the Grabber Mustang, but add the black C stripes and a blacked out hood and you are nearly there. This 5.0 GT has the retro looks down, but the performance it as modern as the moment.
4. 1967 Ford Mustang Restomod
Is the 21st century not retro looking enough for you? How about this genuine 1967 Mustang, in Snakeskin Green, powered by a supercharged 5.0 liter Coyote motor? Under the skin the brakes and suspension have been similarly upgraded, and the interior is pretty swanky, too. More details are here.
5. 2014 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Factory Drag Racer
Remember the Mustang Cobra Jet factory NHRA drag racer? Well here it is in the green factory color with the optional graphics.
6. 1965 Ford Mustang of Team Mustang Girls
Since 2011, these two ladies have been taking part in the Bull Run rallies in their Calypso Green 1965 Mustang. It started out as a stock straight six powered, drum brake equipped survivor, and over the years has been restomodded into a much better driver and performer. Details are on the Team Mustang Girls page.
7. 1965 Ford Mustang Matte Finish Restomod
If you can't tell right away, this car has had a ton of custom body work done to it, and it is all in steel, not fiberglass. Topping it off with a matte finish olive green was the final custom touch. Under the hood is a blown 32-valve Cobra motor, and the rest of the hard parts are up to snuff too. You can read the story on Mustang 360.
8. 1993 Ford Saleen Mustang
Remember some of the oddball Ford colors of the 1990s? What were they thinking with those pinks, purples and greens? This color is officially called Calypso Green again, but it is more of a teal. Rumor has it just 6 of the Saleens were painted this color though, making this a rare pony.
9. 1991 Ford Mustang GT
The opposite of the 1990s Bright Calypso Green is the Deep Emerald Green of the same era. These cars looked like serious business from day one, and have aged extremely well, except for the weak power of the old 5.0 liter. Thankfully, that is easy to upgrade.
10. 2013 Ford Mustang of Nikki Frost
This isn't just another gratuitous shot of an attractive woman and a green Ford Mustang. This is Nikki Frost, and that is her Gotta Have it Green Mustang GT (and matching helmet). It has a Vortech supercharger and a bunch of other upgrades, too, helping her run the quarter in 12.4 seconds. You can get all the details from Muscle Mustangs. A redheaded woman with a lucky green Mustang is the perfect pairing for St. Patty's Day.
