A Guide for Building Your Own Eleanor Mustang

It’s been 15 years since Gone in 60 Seconds (the remake), but Eleanor certainly hasn’t lost her appeal.

Trouble is, getting your hands on one of the custom Shelby GT500s is practically impossible, unless you have a whole lot of cash to spend, considering there were only 11 models built. But where there’s a will there’s a way to get just about anything done. And coming up with an Eleanor Mustang is no exception. Well, at least according to a story we found recently posted on Boldride.com.

For starters, you’ll need to track down a Mustang for the build. And remember, you get what you pay for, so don’t expect a miracle mod from a lackluster starter car.

Second, hop online and search the internet for Eleanor-style fiber glass body kits. Keep in mind, pricing could vary. For reference, Boldride suggests pulling up some photos of an original Eleanor Mustang. This should give you an idea of the kind of parts you’ll need in the kit, like the front bumper, raised hood, and side scoops.

The fiber glass parts could need some trimming and sanding to fit properly, but it’ll all be well worth the work in the end. Be sure to check and double-check the parts and placement on your donor car to prevent any gaps and bubbles on your mod.

Also, make sure you don’t cut corners when painting the car. That’s a distinctive feature of the Eleanor Mustang.

Finally, if you get stuck during the process, turn to one of The Mustang Source forums for help.
