At 66, Mulally isn't exactly far past his prime, and Executive Chairman Bill Ford is said to be in no hurry to welcome in a successor. That said, the timing of Mulally's exit from Ford is likely to be a determining factor in the decision to hire his replacement.
Current CFO Lewis Booth, at 63 years of age, could potentially hold the seat at the head of Ford for a few years if Mulally were to retire earlier than expected. If that doesn't happen, Mark Fields, Ford's President of the Americas, is cited as the most likely choice as its next CEO.

Mulally sure got Ford headed in the right direction these last few years! I hope his successor doesn't blunder and send them backwards in quality after Mulally and others got Ford on top, so to speak!

I'd rather they looked for somebody who had the same values and ethics as Mullaly. In short you need somebody who is just more than a bean counter, you need a person who understands and has passion for the product and not solely the bottom line.

I like Iacocca as much as the next guy, but by Iaccoca's own admission he helped put Chrysler on the track to where it is today.

This is, most likely, just a job for him. Same thing will happen with the next guy too.

Summary: If your product isn't better than the others, then the others are going to be bought BY YOUR OWN EMPLOYEES. That says a ton. His timing on selling his Lexus and getting a Ford, or just being given a Ford that magically showed up at his house for him to drive is not part of that equation.
/And yes, it is just a job... but he seems to be good at it, and it could be fraught with bad when he leaves.

Oh c'mon. What he drove wasn't the issue. I can imagine a plethora of explanations as to why this was the case. It's beside the point, or maybe *exactly* the point: Ford wasn't building things that everyone had to have. Or he wouldn't have been brought in.

On one side, I like what Mullaly has done with improvements on Edge, Explorer, F-Series, Mustang and other domestic-only products.
On the other side, I just hate these new global products. I expected they would share few things (like Escorts did in the 1980s), but they're identical for both markets. And they're not selling, I mean, the Focus is being outsold by Chevy Cruze close to 2:1.
People that are looking for the European cars ain't gonna be looking at Ford for sure.

So how do you like your Focus?
I test drove one few weeks ago and I love how it drives, but it's just so small on the inside, my knees and my elbows keept hitting things all the time. I felt much more comfortable in my Mustang.
I'm planing to take the new VW Passat for the test drive on Saturday. It has the same MSRP ($20,000) as the Focus that I test drove, but it looks so much bigger on pictures.
I test drove one few weeks ago and I love how it drives, but it's just so small on the inside, my knees and my elbows keept hitting things all the time. I felt much more comfortable in my Mustang.

It handles great . . . I think better than the Mach (which I have upgraded chassis and suspension modifications.) And I just ordered some "steelies" and all-season tires to replace my 18" wheels/tires for the winter and ordered the "fuel saver" hubcaps.
