Is a little "buzz" sound from the shift **** normal?

This is my first manual car, however, my friend taught me how to drive manual for a month so I'm a descent stick shift driver. I have a 2012 mustang gt stick with just 800 miles on it. I have noticed this buzz sound since day 1. I'm going to describe it as detailed as possible. First of all, this is the sound you hear when you put your ear right on the shift **** while idling. As you rev the engine this sound gets louder while idling and in N. When I drive in 1st gear, 2nd gear I hear this sound, it's not super loud, on a scale of 1-10 I'd say it's a 4, 10 being loudest. The car is 100% stock with the 3.31 gear. This is my first and only stick shift car so I was wondering if this is normal for the mustang, thanks in advance for any help.

Could it just be the sound of the vibration?

I don't hear it on mine. Or, at least, it isn't loud enough for me to notice

will,

have you read the owners manual yet? it is in the glove box. that is the thing in front of the passengers seat, it has a lock on it..

please read it..

no where in that big text thing does it say put your ear near the shifter..

now yes it is attached to the transmission, and it is attached to the motor and yes they do vibrate.. so guess what!

beers

I can't believe you're asking this. Is your shifter a sea shell? Can you hear the ocean in it?

I bet your catalytic converters make a vibrating sound as well. You should put your ear up to them while the car's running and check.

No more lock on the glove box, but interesting enough there is one on the center console. I guess ford thinks the stuff in the glove isn't important enough for a lock. Thnx Ford. Will, I wouldn't worry about it and please refer to your transmission as a manual and not a stick shift. Thank you

obviously I'm not putting my ear to the shift **** while driving. I was just pointing out....it's the noise I hear when I rev the engine to lets say 3000 rpm in 1st gear. That noise that you hear when you have your ear next to the shift **** in N gets louder in 1st and 2nd when I rev it

so after driving it around my block today, I'm pretty sure it is the vibration from the shift ****. I can hear it vibrating against something specifically in 1st and 4th. do you know how to get rid of this vibration? I'm trying not to take it to the dealer and just get rid of the sound myself

Trade it in for an automatic shift.

hey, so it's normal for a manual to do this then right? by the way the vibration noise is louder when the car is cold and I just start driving.

first make sure your **** is tight (that's what she said)

a little buzz is normal normal, but if it's bothering you, you can pop-off the center console and boot and put a rubber spacer between the shifter handle and the shifter (if it doesn't already have one). that will dampen a lot of the vibration. What I did was take a heater hose, split it in half and use that. have used that method on all my past mustangs. works great.

how many times do you need to be told it is normal.....of course, this is just the internet.....you could go to the dealer and ask them as a final option.
