Transmission issue here (after 9 months no problems)

It is quite bad. At higher RPMs (3000 -5000) I am unable to shift even with the clutch fully engaged (depressed). It is like its locked in gear as others have described. Not funny and dangerous so I advise to just plan how you drive and avoid situations where you need to use the car's maximum power to get going. It is difficult to drive the car because nearly every gear change needs to be assisted in some way. Either let the RPMs drop to nearly idle speed to change gears or never go above 2000 RPMs and it seems to be OK. No enjoyment here and quite annoying since I loved the feel of the shifter/clutch prior to the MT-82 shifting problem.

So far I have only planned an appointment to the dealership this week. They accessed the TSB information and first course of action mentions a fluid change. Not sure this is a long term or proper solution but I will let them diagnose the car and perform the repairs. It definately exists and I really babied this car. I never raced or abused the car. I depend on the car especially since I do not feel like working on the cobra these days. It sucks that I will have to pay for a rental while the warranty repairs are performed.

Sorry for another broken transmission post but I am tired of reading the argumentative and opinionated thread/polls regarding this issue to find facts. I will post the results of the dealerships repair steps.

Sounds possibly more like the clutch and not the transmission. Hopefully it can get resolved with only one appointment.

I hope the clutch is not bad and if so I hope it is covered under the terms of the warranty. This clutch should have lasted 150,000 miles or more considering the way I drive it. I still have my stock clutch im my 2003 cobra with a Kenne Bell supercharger. Now I drive that car hard at times so that is quite amazing. I have a replacement flywheel and dual disk clutch assembly awaiting install for my 03 cobra. I hate that hard stock clutch is traffic jams. I loved the clutch in the 2011 in every situation. No reason for the clutch in my 2011 V6 should give so soon.

Pressure plate bolts backing out seems to be a likely cause but what is the proper repair? That is the question for my dealership/engineer. Any additional damage from the gears occaisionally grinding? That cannot be good for the gears or shift forks as well as other transmission internals.

Wish me luck and I will keep you all informed regarding my situation. Keep in mind I am in Germany so I hope they get the green light for replacement parts or proper support from Ford USA to get this car repaired.

That's what I thought when I read it as well. That, or a shift fork issue. Best of luck getting it diagnosed properly and back without issues.

There is at least a "Special Service Message" for the clutch bolt issue, if not an outright TSB.

2011 MUSTANGS EQUIPPED WITH MT82 MANUAL TRANSMISSION - EXPERIENCING VARIOUS CLUTCH SYMPTOMS
2011 MUSTANGS EQUIPPED WITH MT82 MANUAL TRANSMISSION MAY EXPERIENCE DIFFICULTY SHIFTING INTO REVERSE AND 1ST GEAR, LOW CLUTCH PEDAL RESERVE OR CLUTCH PEDAL FEELING VERY LIGHT. POSSIBLE CAUSE COULD BE LOOSE CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATE BOLTS. REFER TO WORKSHOP MANUAL SECTION 308-01 (CLUTCH REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION FOR APPROPRIATE ENGINE APPLICATION). CLEAN THREAD MATERIAL FROM FLYWHEEL BOLT HOLES WITH APPROPRIATE NON-OIL BASED SOLVENT. DURING INSTALLATION BE SURE TO INSTALL NEW PRESSURE PLATE BOLTS (W715869-S439) AND TIGHTEN ONE TURN AT A TIME IN A STAR PATTERN UNTIL ALL BOLTS REACH A NEW TORQUE OF 63NM (46 LBFT). I got my car back and it shifts well. I am not sure of all of the replacement parts that were installed outside of the pressure plate bolts. So it very well could be that I have the same clutch. I will find out soon when I speak back to the dealer. They followed the TSB issued by Ford.

I am enjoying driving my V6 again. I love my 03 cobra but more on the race track and less on public roads.

Clutch

Glad to hear the problem is resolved. I bought my V6/6spd after reading all the posts about this on another board. Mine has only hit a thousand miles so far, but I do love driving it. ......................

I don't think anyone doubts that there are cars with problems. I don't think it's as widespread as some would have you believe. Sorry it happened to you man.

You shouldn't have to pay for a rental though. I have always been given a loaner.

One thing i definately noticed about that clutch-tranny issue is that it doesn't like to shift at low rpm's. Once you're above 3500-4000 rpm it does shift a lot smoother.
Eorocobra, can you provide us with your work order details on what parts they used to fix your clutch.

Does anyone else get a clunk after engaging 2nd at ~1100k from neutral? I usually pop it in neutral when I need to slow down for a speed bump, since my car is lowered I need to go slower and I've read that you should almost never shift to 1st unless from a stop.

I do but it comes from the rear.
