Are cancelling orders doable?

I ordered a 12 GT at the end of march. Last week I called for the status of the car and the salesman said there's no VIN and its still on the shelf to begin production. There was an ETA of may 31, but he said since ford went from 3 shifts to 2 shifts it'll probably be the beginning of June. I put a $500 deposit on the car, and was wondering if its refundable if I cancel the order.

Yes, but keep in mind it takes an average of 3 months from the time you ordered it to delivery. Just remember you ordered a car, not a cake, so be patient.

Yea... May 31 is one day away from being the beginning of June. Is it really that big of an issue? There are people that ordered in Jan-Feb that still don't have their cars because of whatever reason. It is a special order, not like you are just picking one off the lot.

Anyone know how much the GT trumps the R/T?

Dunno if it's standard across dealers or not but I made sure that my deposit was fully refundable before I put it down. Not exactly sure why my deposit was even necessary since it is but they asked for $1k and settled for $500... why would I give them an extra $500 to hold on to for 2 months when I can let it work for me - even if it's just worth pennies -- instead of them.

Charger or Challenger?.....or Caravan..? sorry had to laugh when I looked up RT and saw they were making one.

Performance wise the Charger is pretty much just a different car. It's a 370hp 4 door sedan with a 5 speed A/T. Seeing as it is a bigger car I doubt it will be doing close to the same numbers as the Mustang, but the AWD option always throws a screw into the mix. From the reviews I've seen a stock RT with RWD do 13.7 1/4 mile, but can't seem to find an AWD time.

If you don't have a VIN now, you will not have a car by May 31. Or June 1st, for that matter, it would have to have been built already and on the train to get there by that time frame.

Just be straight up with your salesman and ask him if they have the allotment available to get your car. If it has been this long without getting a VIN, more than likely they don't have the extra allotment to use for your order.

I was actually talking about the Charger R/T RWD with the 5.7. Does the GT auto really have that much better time than this RT? I expected the GT I have on order by early summer but I guess that's not going to happen.

I just went back and re-read this. I'm not sure where the ETA came from but I didn't think that Ford gave ETAs until after the build was scheduled. I could be wrong.

They normally don't give ETAs till after the build is scheduled, unless you are doing an order like mine where I said I get back to the states on this day and need the car. But that has to do with a military ordering program, so I don't know for sure.

The dealer put may 31 on the day I ordered the car. Right on the invoice.

That's clearly just an arbitrary estimate. He had no way to know if the car would come then, especially with the current inspection hold.

I would say the GT is .7 to .9 tenths faster.

How does that feel as to acceleration? Is it very noticeable? Is there that much more punch and force in the gt than the rt?

I wouldn't go that far. I would get your order number from the dealership and then send that information to Deysha and ask her for the details... She would be able to tell you the current status.

I ordered feb. 12th. I was told 6 to 8 weeks. Probably like most here. Well, it took 10 weeks just to get a VIN. The build day is 05-18-11 and i've heard 2 different ETA's. 06-01-11 from Deysha and 06-03-11 from my dealer. That would put it at 16 weeks. It's frustrating but everyone here says it is well worth the wait and i believe it is.

Orders are taking forever lately, especially with the inspection hold going on. I'm at 16 weeks as of tomorrow, and my car has been finished since the 21st of april. Now just waiting for it to get on a truck for the 300 mile journey to my dealer.

I did call and the dealer said there is none yet. Won't have one till I get a vin.
