motor trend mag MUSTANG news '08 400hp range...

hello..
i just read in jan motortrend that the '08 GT will have a version of the 5.0 V8 Hurricane motor. Probably in the range of 400hp...they also said the '08 stang will have a awesome facelift and look more aggressive than current GT

the same motor that is being put into the BOSS that is coming out later '07. This motor will have 425-435hp.

all i can say is WOW!!!

Wow - if thats true, its great news. Glad to see Ford ahead of the "powercurve" that Dodge and Chevy will be bringing in 09/10.....

yes! great news eh?

so, i was shopping around for an '07 but now i think im going to wait and see what happens in '08.

If the bodystyle is not not my liking...then i can always still get a CPO '07.

However, if the '08 GT is hovering around 400hp as Motor Trend stated, i might have to go for it regardless of bodystyle!

something tells me its going to LOOK amazing!

That's kind of early for the Boss 5.0 to be released. I'd give it at least 1-3 model years for the bugs to be worked out. I also wouldn't be surprised if there was at least a $10k markup for the first year. I did a google search for MT articles and it seems the editors are speculating with a little bit more inside info than we have. 390-400 hp, 5.0L Boss V8, etc... GT500 chassis/suspension, etc... Hopefully it isn't as heavy as the GT500.

Okay, since this is being discussed, why not just start the dreaming.

DREAM: Ford announces an engine upgrade program allowing 05-07 owners to install '08 Boss engine for $9,999 with a $3,500 rebate program on core engines.

Hey, why not right? You never know.

I'll believe it when I see it.

The only engine that is BOSS and is 5.0L is the crate motor ....
which has nothing to do with the BOSS OHC engines from 5.8-6.2L

Motor Trend is fishing, and they aren't getting anything....

Either Ford has really adopted its "Go Fast" strategy of fast tracking new technologies, or Motor Trend is fishing (as you said). The Hurricane program was cancelled a few years ago and was only recently publically announced (they may have been ready for production by then). Then they changed the name to "Boss" all within a year. Now I hear that the 2008 Stang may get the Boss engine. So that's approximately 2-3 years from when they first announced a new engine to compete against the Hemi, to expected production... sounds rather fast

They were also speculating the Boss Stang will be a stripper GT500.

Actually they speculate with much less info...there is no penalty if they're wrong. Many times their "inside info" comes from forums and is always several months old.

Thanks for the correction!
So is it that easy to be a car rag editor/writer? Now I know why I cancelled my subscriptions!

I can see the BOSS in limited production models maybe in 2008 !but needing 400+ HP to compete with Chevy and Dodge, SVT can probably milk that out of the 4.6 3v if they really want to!

If SVT is going to tackle competing against GM and DCX, then you can bet they will just slap a blower on some Mustang engine!

I'm betting Motor Trend is definitely making stuff up here, they also have a very long lead time so their information is not as fresh as here.

I'm willing to bet the timelines that have already been estabilshed on this forum and others is correct, that the Boss V8's will first be seen in the 2008 F150's and then trickle down to the other Car and SUV lines in the next 5 model years after.

I don't think there will be a Boss motor in the Mustang until maaaaabye 2009, but even then, it would only be an S/E. The 4.6 3V will be carryover until at least 2009 IMO

January '07 issues Motor Trend..

if you get a chance, have a look at the Jan. '07 issue.

Who knows what the truth is, but the article was written in a way that i was not speculative information. Looked pretty solid to me....

If so...very exciting for the '08 GTs...380-400hp range 5.0L V8

it states the boss and bullitt out later in '07...

I'll eat my shoe with sweet-n-sour sauce if the 08 Mustang GT has 400hp
Ain't...gonna...happen

I'm telling you... MT got word of a BOSS302 and went to print...
Not hitting the fact of it being a crate engine and not ready for prime time.

Other than having the 5-oh name..there is ZERO benefit to making one.
We have the current 4.6L and 5.4L mod motors...
And the upcoming BOSS engines @ 5.8-6.2
