Oil consumption
I have a question. I am looking at buying a 2017 GT350 or a new Bullitt. I have always wanted a Shelby but I have concerns about the issue with oil consumption. I would appreciate input from owners on there experience with this. Also what the major advantages of one over the other. Thanks

Heard a quart every 200 miles, seems excessive . There are many 2016-2017 low mileage examples to be had, and prices are falling. This will be a part time driver (2-4K per year).

it does not have a Magnaride suspention, or an Oil, Trans or Rear Diff Coolers, massive 2 peice Rotors and massive brembo brakes
or a special 5.2L 526HP naturally aspirated motor that redlines at 8250 RPM. this list goes on and on with all the features or advantages the GT350 has over the Bullitt or any Mustang.
The GT350 is not a straight line performer, is a road course car, that hangs with or out runs Porshe, Corvettes and BMW's on the track.
About the Oil consumption issue:
the high oil consumption is not a rampet problem, I can not get any numbers from Ford, but remember the GT350 is a hand built High performance engine and these type of engines have a higher than average failure rate. I am trying to track the number of cars with the issues but my estimate is about 6% have the issue, and it seems to be limited in 2016 and 2018, a majority of the failures are 2017.
there are other issues due to the OPG breaking apart and a VCT issues but these are at a lot lower rate like less than 1%
I have a 2017 GT350 [H6088] Ruby Red Track Pack and at first the engine did not use any oil, by 5000 mi it was using 1 quart every 120 miles. Ford did appove an Engine replacment in February and it took about a week. The replaced it with a 2019 GT350R engine.
I believe there are some failures due to not following the Break-in Procedure. I have talked to several who had the failure and they say they babied the car for the first 1000 mi
where as others who drive the car hard but stayed out of the redline for the first 1000 mi. and have never used a drop of oil.
So what ever you decide dont make it on "will it use oil or not". these engines will use oil say 1 qt every 1000 miles is normal especially if you tend to let the engine live in the higher RPM's.
I guess you have to figure out what you want from the car and what you want to do with it.
Here is Mine, I call it Deadpool because of the color

350 Oil Consumption
Check out the 40K Car and Driver GT350 long term road test where they added 21.5 quarts of oil to the car on top of 5. 10 quart deal oil changes. Also check out www.autoline.TV for an interview with Carl Widmann, Chief Mustang Engineer, At the 19 minute spot, he discusses the oil consumption.

My 2019 GT350R has been tracked since I FINISHED the break in. The break in is critical.
A Ford catch can was installed when new. All total I have had less than an1/8th of an inch of oil in the catch can. I have notices zero usage on the dip stick.
