Angry Basketball hoop vs. Mustang

So, today a typical Florida summer afternoon thunderstorm pops up super fast with high winds that blew my hoop
over into my car. The pole hit my front fender and the hoop just missed the middle of my hood. It left a nice dent.
Any of you body guys think I should make a claim, I have 1000 dollar deductible on comp. or just get estimate and
pay out of pocket. Have no idea the cost yet was just wondering what you guys thought.

My first thought is pay out of pocket unless it ends up being over your deductible.

$1000 deductible... tough call.

No rent car on the insurance? Probably won't hit the deductible. Probably out of pocket this and call it a day.

Rent car involved, and needed? You need to get the estimate first. That'll drive the decision better. How many days will it be in the shop? 5? Let's say 5. Looks like you can get a 'Special Sports Car' at $24 a day or $198 total (less taxes), so let's say $300 for a rent car that week. Plus the repair. Dunno if your deductible is enough now... might go over a couple hundred? So in that case, why throw away the $200, unless your rates are going to go up and cost you more...

So yeah, estimate is first either way. Then you can decide.

This is a job for one of those paintless dent repair guys at about $300 or so. I've utilized them in the past and they work wonders if you get the right guy. I had a very similar dent like yours on the crease many years ago and It magically disappeared after the repair. It was amazing. I paid $200 back then so I just made a 'guesstimate' of what it might cost today. Not worth filing a claim, that's for sure. They just raise your rates in many instances. You want to save insurance for the BIG stuff that costs thousands. Good luck!

Yes, truth, but... this one doesn't look good. There's gouges in the paint, and that's a double whammy dent. If it were a straight up on the crease dent, they'd get it out. Both sides of the crease and the crease is likely going to be 'not gonna happen' territory. Oh, sure, they'll take the money, but... And the paint's probably going to crack doing it, as there's a gouge right in the middle of it.

Certainly worth lookin' into though, just temper the expectations. I've seen them directly say 'no' to similar in a hood and fender, and send them to the body shop instead of attempting it and making it worse.

For what my experience is worth, anyway.

This. Find a shop with electromagnetic dent remover. It's much better and faster than some guy with suckers and hammers. But the paint damaged will be the hard part. Personally, being that it's on the fender, I'd do the PDR and get a kit from Dr. Colorchip. I wish I had done the Dr. Colorchip on my car instead of the Ford touch up paint which is horrible. If you have the whole fender painted it'll never match the hood and door. Trust me. Even if it's blended, you'll notice it.

I got a similar dent on my driver side front fender when a ramp fell off a top shelf in my garage. Took it to the dealer body shop that I trust, their guy gave me a big estimate, insurance paid for that, and I'm putting the money into a new set of carbon fiber fenders. So I'm looking at it as a good thing. Still, I can't wait to get rid of the dent!

Well, I got 2 estimates from body shops that wanted 1200.....the 400 dollar guy was kinda shaky....
Got 2 estimates from PDR guys for around 400....wasn't sure how it would look....
So. I finally got a PDR guy that said 275....
I went with him and he stands behind his work...only charged me 250 because there is still a tiny little
deformity that he said would crack paint if he worked it out...
I am very happy with results! Cant even tell it was there unless you really look hard !
Just a word to you guys that may end up with a small dent ...The PDR guys are awesome and
way cheaper than body shop....Just research and look at past jobs....
Thanks guys
Paul
