Smile My Recent Mustang Story.

I have had several Mustangs over my 65 years my first car at 16 was a 1965 Mustang coupe. Four speed with a 289 2V. My last one was a 1995 GTS which was sold in 1998. So 20 years without a Mustang. So last March I decided to purchase a new 2018 GT. Black with the 6sp manual trans. Only option was the Black accent package. Excellent car but I found out that my manual trans days are over as the clutch made my left leg ache. Which would only get worse with age. So I sold the car last Monday and purchased a new GT Premium this Wednesday. Ruby Red with the 10sp Auto trans. Black leather with several more options than the Black GT. Only have 46 miles so far but the 10sp auto is great. Plan to keep this one for as long as I am allowed to drive.

Congrats. I think if I were in the market right now, that 10spd would pique my interest. I'm tired of driving in stop and go traffic on hilly freeways every day!

Congrats on the newer purchases! Quite the jump.

Ive always had automatic cars. Learned to drive a manual when I was 12 though. Helping in the field and all. But I test-drove a '17 manual before getting mine, and I'd agree, it's a pretty hard press for the clutch.

At the age of 16, I had two herniated disks. And a couple years ago at 32, I had another one. 3 surgery's total. The worst part of having herniated disks is the shooting pain up and down the left leg. All I could think of when I was test driving the manual was that I'd never be able to drive myself home if it ever got bad while I was away from the house.

Congrats on your latest pony and nice story! I'd rather have an automatic pony than no pony!

The new 10 speed is not at all like the resent 6 speed auto, and definitely not like any old school auto we drove back in the day. I am 59 and have raced SCCA in my younger days and now that I am old I just go out and play at HPDE track days. All that to say I have driven my 10 speed A.T. on the track and it is very capable. You will enjoy it.

I am enjoying the new 10sp auto. Like you said nothing like the old auto transmissions.

It's a beauty sir. And, like you I have been quite impressed with the A10 transmission.

OP Congrats on the new ride. I agree with Patrick on this one. Manual tranny's are no fun in stop and go freeway traffic. The A10 is getting a lot of praise, and most are saying it will out perform a manual. We just can shift fast enough to keep up... Your new Ruby Red is very sharp. Post more pics when you get them.

I have the almost identical Mustang as you have. Same color, wheels, and amazing A10 .
I special ordered mine with a white and black interior which looks really custom. I have 800 miles so far and have done two oil changes to "clean out the crud" which was in the oil pan. I love the remote start feature, rev matching downshifts, global windows, hill stop assist, ambient lighting, pony puddle lights, and the great exhaust notes. And the brakes are so good and powerful. Enjoy the best that Ford has.

Do you have any pics of your car that you can share?

Absolutely awesomeness right there! So I know there is so much more power in the newer car but what's the seat of the pants feeling when hooning with both? My '89 was a torquey hoot to drive

I'm sure you're glad that you held onto your 88 GT? As I know exactly how much fun they were to drive. I owned 3 Fox-body Mustangs including an 81 Mercury Capri. Anyhow congrats once again

My last Fox-body was also a black 93 SVT Cobra in which I should've kept, especially now that their value is starting to go up. At any rate, I'll look into scanning an old pic I have to post on here.

I just returned from the Barrett Jackson NE auction and it was a Mustang feast! The Ford thrill rides are now given in 2018 GT PP 6 speed cars with pro drivers. Last year it was all Shelby GT 350s. The exhaust notes were different but the 2018 GT PP is right up there with the 350s based on my violent thrill ride. And so far no broken aluminum shift forks! (FOX Mustangs were sold and the prices were showing nice increases. Two were over $20K!
