rearend growl

I have just under 150,000 miles on my 2006 pony pkg. auto trans
I've had a tuner on it for all it's life,
I recently had it to the shop to figure out the recent growl that was in the rear end,
As it turns out the whole rear end needs rebuilding ! bad wear on ring & pinion

I was wondering if any body else has been down this road ?
I'm thinking the added pressure of the tune brought this on.
It will pretty easily brake the tires loose with a limited slip.

How about the 150K miles on her? I'm sure that had nothing to do with the wear and tear.

Tune does not add any huge stress on the rear end, maybe just a little from the firmer shifts . . . the 150K miles seems like the obvious culprit to me too

I finally solved it after close to $2000 !
It was a pitted race in the axle bearing, right side !

Thanks for the update -- that's kinda steep for a bearing, LOL :-)

Most definitely steep for just a bearing LOL. It cost me $1580 for the entire ring and pinion gear swap, including new shim & bearing kit, spider gears and clutches. That was my total cost for parts and labor at my local Ford dealership. Anyhow, just saying

I think I'd be looking for a new mechanic in the future. Poor diagnosis.
