2018 5.0 with 286 miles needs new engine
Hi all, my friends daughter just took delivery of a 2018 5.0 with 286 miles the engine started to miss and developed a rod knock. The dealer wants to put in a new engine she's asking for a different car.how should this problem be handled? Thanks

While I might be inclined to ask for a new car, if they are willing to replace the faulty engine in a timely manner, that is a good option to me. I would be wary of repairing the existing engine. Ford might want the old engine to study why it failed so soon.

That's... a bit to ask. Ford will have to make that call. And they'll say 'warranty the engine', and they get a loaner until it's ready.
Brand new car with the exact options color and such is not going to be easily replaced. You'd have to be more flexible in the replacement. Perhaps you don't get the blue one, or you don't get the nav, or something like that.
Unless you want to wait for a new ordered one... in which case the engine would be faster. And it'll be a short block. Ford'll definitely want that one back to see what the heck happened there. That really shouldn't happen. I dare say that Ford is very likely to get the long block instead, but I give it a 50/50 chance.
Also unless they can magically find a matching car at another dealership and get it swapped out... at the dealer's expense, that'll be a negative. Won't happen. If Ford makes the swap so that both dealers are happy, that *might* happen.
Unreasonable request is unreasonable. A warranty does not imply new/replacement car. One time on the engine block is a warranty item. Three times is a lemon, that's different.
You might can request that Ford buy back the car, as it's really not the dealership's fault. If Ford decides to do this, then you can buy whatever car you want after the deal is struck and you get returned to 0.
All that.... and I'm getting an engine replaced with a loaner car in the mean time, all paid and warrantied by Ford so I can get my car back.
That'd be me though.

After almost 10 years as a Ford Service Advisor I can only say that the replacement engine WILL be a NEW engine, since the car is obviously within its first 12mo/12k (after that they put in reman engines if available).
And yes, she owns the car, she's not gonna get another car, unless somehow the dealership sales dept wants to take that hit, and they won't since it would cost them quite a bit, possibly thousands of dollars, to trade her car back in and sell her another.
She should most definitely get a loaner for free while her new car is in for the engine job.
Anything more than that is really just gonna create friction between her and the dealership, and not a good way to start that relationship.
I had customers with brand new cars that needed huge repairs, it is what it is, we fixed the car and always took care of the customer when they came back in.

By the way, the replacement engine will more than likely be a long block, complete bottom-end with heads and intake, the whole shebang.
Ford will most definitely want the complete "old" engine back, that thing's got a date with an engineering team, gonna get torn down and see what went wrong

2018 GT with Performance Pak
OK, so had a 2017 GT Premium 5.0 Auto stick, and used to get about 300 or more miles per tank. I sold the 17 and picked up an 18 GT with the performance package, 10 speed auto, all the bells and whistles, and seeing some potential issues. For the 18 I'm only getting about 260 miles per tank, and pushing it less than I did the 17. The 18 has just about 1100 miles on it. Also, the switch/button for the heated seats on the driver side is sticking. Has anyone had any experience with either of these issues? And one other question, has anyone put a cold air intake into an 18 5.0 yet? I have the one I was going to install into my 17 still in the original box, but when I asked K&N if it would fit they have replied they don't know. I'm planning to remove the factory resonator and install an X pipe, looks like a number of possible manufacturers, and little different designs. Any recommendations, and why, thanks. Not to cause issues, but this thread is not about mileage, it's about an engine being replaced somewhat prematurely and the feelings/issues/? thereto.
