Oil Spec For Performance Pack Cars.
Does anyone know if the viscosity spec for performance pack 15-17's is still
5W-50 like the 2014 Track Pack cars? I have a few cases of Mobil One 5W-50 on hand and I'm going to trade my 2014 for a 2018 so it would be nice if I could use the oil in the new car.

The '13-'14 5.0 is identical whether the car has the Track Pack or not (other than the Track Pack cars being equipped with the oil cooler and therefore requiring another half a quart of oil).
So that makes me think the newer 5.0 would be just fine whether you use 5w20 or 5w50 in it.
I'd just keep the 5w50 you have and just use it in the new car.

It might be worth a shot but I'd guess NAPA wouldn't want 5W50 back as it is probably pretty hard to get rid of whereas the 5W20 is used in a lot of motors theses days. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask.

5w50 was recommended in the track pack cars because of track use assumptions. There was 0 difference in the engines on a TP and nonTP car. that being said if you live in a warmer climate you can run the 5w50 especially if you boost it or run hard a lot of the time.

The difference between TP and non TP cars in terms of engine were that TP cars came with:
1) Larger Boss radiator
2) Oil Cooler.
That second one is significant as 5W-50 will take more heat away from the engine because it's thicker. Higher film strength, sticks better to hot parts, etc.
