Trunk won't open.

My daughter has a 2010 Ford mustang convertible C6, and she tells me that her trunk won't open. When she trys to open it, she says she can here it trying to open but the trunk lid will not pop up. Even if someone is pulling up on the trunk while she hits the button. She even try using the key near the rear seat and still nothing. How can I get it open to change the lock mechanism with a new one. Thanks Alan.

Try pushing down on the trunk while using the key.

Pull the rear seat backs down and crawl into the trunk. Pull the cord to open the trunk

Can't do that in a 'vert.

Pushing down on the trunk as stated is the best bet. It happened to me last year on my '14 vert. Turns out a small corner of cloth bag got caught in the latch. I'm more careful when placing things in the trunk.

I was going to suggest that too, did not realize the seats don't fold down in a convertible.

There is a problem with the trunk latches; mine had to be replaced . . . was a long time ago, car was still under warranty at the time.

The trunk latch fix is probably a dealer item, and maybe they can figure out how to open the trunk with the latch not working . . . if pushing down and fiddling with it does not do the trick.

I didn't know that. I thought it was a 'law' to be able to get into and out of the trunk through the rear seat backs

The law is for someone who is locked in the trunk. I guess the workaround for that is to make sure they're dead before you stuff 'em in there.

The law is to have the handle in the trunk so people can get out.

If there was an inside trunk release, Billy Batts could have escaped and Goodfellas might have had a different ending.

There is a key cylinder
hidden in the corner of the back seat to use.

The OP (now deceased in the trunk) mentioned his sister tried that key location.

On a somewhat related note, does anyone have suggestions on how to remove a really bad odor from the trunk?

You might need to call The Wolf.
