10-Speed Auto or 6-Speed Manual
So I pretty much made up my mind regarding which model year Stang I am going to get (2018) and the color (Lighting Blue) now comes the hard decision.
10 speed Auto or Manual? Before all you die hard drivers out there tell me manual is the only way to go I got to tell you from driving both auto and manual.
Auto has always been more consistent in my 1/4 mile races. The only problem I have with auto is how reliable it is. This co-developed 10-speed auto tranny looks interesting but I wonder how it will hold up over time with the abuse we give it.

I hate to have my new 2018 Ford Mustang GT sitting in the shop because of auto transmission problems - I've seen that movie before - not a big fan.

Considering the transmission is in used currently in the Camaro ZL1 racecar and I didn't check but I think in the Ford Raptor already. I would guess the unit is pretty tough and while there may be first year production issues you would be receiving a 2nd year unit in the 2018 Mustang. I wouldn't hesitate to get one for that reason.

If you're looking for nothing but smooth shifts and 0-xxx performance go with the Auto.
If you actually want to be involved in the driving of the car get the Manual. It's really as simple as that.
My 6-speed is slower than the newer autos. I can't match the shift speed. It is going to be smoother than me half the time. But I wouldn't trade my manual if you paid me. I can drop the clutch in any gear, I can skip 3 gears and go directly to where I want to be, and a single well executed heal-and-toe downshift is more rewarding than 2700 lever pulls.
So do you actually want to drive your car or no? Otherwise Uber is a good choice too.

10 speed automatic. Go to a Corvette Forum and read. A lot of butt hurt because the auto is faster than the manual. I think in the 1960's-1970's the automatic cars were around 1 second slower in the 1/4 mile, not true now

Autos are faster now days. But it's about the experience not just the speed. I myself would be torn if making that choice. I'm sure the 10 speed is amazing and probably more reliable. But I'm also pretty sure I'd miss the direct control of a 6 speed.

It really all depends on the person and how you plan on using the car!
I love my 6sp at the track, but I hardly drive the car most of the time because a stick just sucks in the bumper to bumper stop and go commute I have every night from work!

Probably not, with the ability to lock out certain gears for various reasons it's likely that in normal driving you'll only feel it shift three or four times before it's in OD.

Spot on answer... I love my manual.
It is great to have the best tech and know that your car is fast. But I think you are missing the point. If you only want to pull up to the line and crush the throttle to the floor while pointing the car down the road (and hopefully away from other people) then get the auto. If you want to actually be apart of the results and experience the thrill then don't. Yes it will take practice and skill to beat the other driver, but that is really the point isn't it?
I am by no way skilled at this, but it sure is fun.

It all depends on how you want to use the car. Daily driver? Stuck in stop and go traffic daily? Autocrosser? To say an auto turns the car into an appliance is simply not true. Sure, shifting is fun, and I enjoy it every time I drive my wife's Miata or my Corvair. But I also enjoy my auto GT. The 911 Carrera 4S I drove on the track in Atlanta was auto, but I can assure you I never once found it boring or felt uninvolved.
What is the response time of the 10-speed when paddle shifting? If it's like the Porsche, it will be a blast, if it's as slow to shift as my 6 speed Mustang, I wouldn't bother.

^^THIS! 10 speed auto for the win. Faster, (not by much, but still faster), and fun with the paddle shifts.
If I was getting a Hellcat or ZL1, I would get the A10, no question about that. Heck, I might even get the A10 in the new GT500 as well.

Well all I can say is - I ordered a stick in both of last two new cars - but my 2018 GT order will by with the 10 spd auto.
For many of the reasons already mentioned - It sounds too good to pass up!
