Advice needed

I just came across one of those too good to be true deals and need help. A new co-worker has a 72 convertable in his garage with a supposed flat cam. Body is in excellent shape, interior is almost excellent and all numbers should match(will check). Asking price is 3500 and I am wondering if this is a worthwhile investment. The frame has been rhinolined but that is the only noticeable mod. Please help!!! Not sure if I want to let it get away.

even with a worn off lobe or two you still want to see and hear the engine run and make sure the trans works good .. if so then i`d say it`s a deal .. if the engine is totally shot then you`d really have to want and keep the car for that price ..

Invoice on the front seat shows the tranny was recently serviced. Owner is known to take care of his vehicles. The plan is to rebuild motor and make this my step-son's first car in a year and a half. Thanks for the info.

What state are you in? Is salt used? Make sure the rhinolining isn't hiding major rust. If the convertible is mostly solid otherwise it would be a very good investment. kennyg

Gee- I wish I had a step dad who was willing to buy me a mustang convertible project car.

How many miles on that thing? does he run it with the flat lob on cam? Even if the body and tranny are in good shape, parts do wear out with time. are you sure you want to give it to him? how much are you willing to invest to rework to motor et. al, to make it dependable?

We are in Texas, car came from Hawaii. Owner drove it till it started running poorly, been sitting since. Will check frame for weakness. As far as parts wearing out, we are counting on that. That is how I learned what little I know. We will learn together with the help of others, like you guys.
Research shows only 6000 made and I can only find 3 or 4 for sale online. Please, keep the info coming.

only 6000 made? shoot how many you think are left today? in 72 mustang verts were not popular since air conditioning was a popular option then. people were also on the Ralph Nader campaign and they said convertibles were not safe. car manufacturers ran scared afraid of retribution.

me say go for it. you can always do the minimal and pretty her up ...and down the road ....who knows. it could be a nice investment.

sounds like a good deal to me if it runs.

3 out of 4 say go for it.. if it has good glass and good chrome and plastic then yes get it ..

Running or not it's worth the money if it is not a rust bucket....they don't make them anymore and it's a vintage convertible. It may not be everyone's favorite but there is still a value and a market for it.
