I put on 1000 miles before first oil change, then Royal Purple synthetic 5w20. Glenn is heading you in the right direction. Spend an hour or so going over your cars manual, get to know your car, you won't be sorry.

Full synthetic, using the FOMOCO 5w-50 oil provided by the dealer. Change it every 6 months whether it is needed or not. Car is 4+ years old and only have around 16K on the car. I have a track pack car and that is the OEM suggested weight.

yep me too . . . and for $2 more per 5 quarts, you can get the "extended performance" which I believe is a true synthetic Group IV base stock

it is available in the common grades like 5W-20 and 5W-30 but I am not sure about the 5W-50 that is recommended for the track pack cars

I've had great luck with Castrol Edge (formerly Syntec) 5W-50 full syn (also a track pack car and tracked ~4-5 times a year). I put about 7000 miles per season on it, and I'm trying to see if I can do 1 oil change per season. According to Blackstone Labs I may be able to. Will check again this year after 6000 miles and 5 or so track days. Oil has gotten really good over the last decade.
