Speakers upgrades
 

Hi there, I have a 2015 Gt with the shaker system and looking to upgrade the front pillars tweeters with Alpine Sps 110tw,rear deck speakers have been change to alpine Spr-60. Has anyone just replaced only the tweeter and has no problem with the factory amp? Asking because as I was looking for alternatives online in some forum they listed the different values in ohms for the speaker as 4 ohms front door & rear deck 6.5 , 4 ohms midrange and 8 ohms tweeter. Tweeter and midrange are wired in paraller in the front door setup so as the sps 110 is 4 ohms the result should be around 2 ohms and I am concerned if the factory amp could handle it.

Why would you replace just the tweeter????

To Me they are the weakest point on that setup and not efficient . The other 2 speakers on that front door set up are fine to my like. In accordance with some diagrams on another forum the amp drives the front door 6.5" speaker separately from the midrange and tweeter so if you replace with a 2 way component system the output volume will be less than as it is with factory 3 way system .

It might be the media you are using. If you are listing to MP3 stuff well there is not alot of high frequency information on those. I found with my stock system the better the media the better the system sounds. Have you tried using a audio Spectrum analyzer to see what it is doing? You can get some free ones for your phone.

Saludos, For an update as I took the door panels off. The oem tweeters have a dc resistance of 3.2 so they should be 4 ohms not 8 ohms as it was mentioned on another forum, the other 2 speakers (china made) in the doors 6.5" 35 watts and 3" 25 watts are both 2 ohms which is written on the label. So the amp is stable at 2 ohms.

If they are running the mids and the tweeters in series it could be 8 ohms.

Saludos, As an update finally replaced all speakers. In the back with Alpine 6.5 Type R, front doors Cdt Classic 6.5 Midrange, Cdt Hd-3 Midrange ,Alpine 110tw Tweeters and I was able to fit a Daytonaudio RS100P-4" (really is a 3.5") with little modification of cutting a little here and there on front deck center channel. Sounding good.

I am glad to see someone has mentioned the source. The stock Shacker system works well with the right source material.changing the speakers may give you more ambient hiss,from under performing tweeters,but that doesn't equate to better highs. The system isn't perfect but unless you are going to tune the interior to the new speakers,the sound maybe loader but not better articulated.The highs cant be rolled off at 17-18,000 and expect crisp sound.Only using an external EQ would allow proper tailoring of the frequencies of the speakers to the interior. In my opinion.
