H pipe or Axle Backs or Both?

Greetings

I don't know what to do and would like some help please.

I fitted a Mishimito H-pipe a few months back and really like the tone and nice increase in both internal and external volume. There is a nice overrun sound too with the H-pipe. I go to Mustang meets and many have Borla cat backs, Roush axle backs and custom exhausts etc. They sound good but just a bit too loud for me. To be honest, I really like the tone of the current setup with the H-pipe and it would be nice if it was just another 20% louder.

I took it to a reputable specialist manufacturer of exhaust who have a lot of experience and they said it might be best with a bespoke axle back with the resonator back on. I really don't want any drone. He can do his best to prevent that but said the H-pipe may allow it to drone.

As I don't really want to cut the system anymore my questions are:-

1, Does the H-pipe give the car that muscle car tone more so than just fitting an axle back with the resonator in place?
2, I've heard this from CJ pony parts
It sounds deep but not sure if it sounds more European than American muscle car.
3, Will the H-pipe I currently have what would be the best option to keep the current tone, H-pipe with stock mufflers or with an axle back?

My theory is the H-pipe allows for more sound and unless I went with a loud axle back I wouldn't have the same tone in the car.

Sorry it's a big long winded but I want to try and get thoughts before I jump into it. If I was after loud that would be easy,

Thanks
Mark

Just to add to that a drove a Challenger R/T state side for my hols. The 5.7 Hemi. That was a perfect tone and not sure if that has a standard X or H pipe.

I kind of went the same route ........ long story short, you would be happy with a Roush axle back with the stock resonator , zero drone,. Just for a little more volume , i replaced the resonator withe the " Magnaflow resonated X pipe " also no drone . I have a vert and love the sound , kind of half way between ........ muscle car & euro , but ! sound is so subjective .

Not an expert but the axle back mufflers cause the drone, not the h pipe or x pipe. Some axle backs don't have drone some do. I guess it may possible that an h or x pipe could add to the drone noise or intensify it. Like right now you have an H pipe with stock mufflers and no drone.Once you change the axle backs all bets are off even if you have a resonator, but the resonator may limit the drone some. Either way, Sound is different to everyone. Well at least you know which ones are too loud for you from your meets.

Thanks for your responses, it's helped a lot. I'm having some axle backs made up tomorrow. The guy is a specialist and said he'll listen to the car with the resonator back on and take it from there. See how it goes. If I find it could be louder and I can ways out then H pipe back on.

Will see how it goes. No idea what ford don't out a decent exhaust kn to be begin with.

Cool let us know how it goes. My first mustang is the 2018. And it sounds great with the H pipe/resonator delete. It sounded decent stock too. But I hear what you are saying, seems like we have to mod these cars.

So far he removed the mufflers and fired it up, crazy sound. Tried it with the stock resonator back on and it sounded really good. A nice tone, perhaps too deep for me and a bit too loud. The mufflers are having a mix of chambered and sound material. Will see how it sounds later. I'll let you know the outcome.

I concluded that I like the sound with the new mufflers and the resonator. The muffler was made after we fired the car with just the resonator in place. I've got a mix of small chamber and packing material with some perforations of the pipe in the muffler. It's smaller than stock which you can see. It's much deeper than stock and gives nice presence without being overly loud. What I like is that now I can hear the engine on the overrun. No drone either. I had the 4" tail pipes too which I much prefer.

nice! glad its better for you. nice car. I noticed taillights are different. I figure the mustang has different designs in UK.

Yes we miss quite a few things thanks to the EU. We don't have the hood vents, nor do we have the front DRL tri bars. We have to have a DRL in the bottom cluster. It looks ok but sits where a traditional fog light would.normally be. We also have a different deck lid GT badge. I quite like that though.

I like the deck lid and badge too. Of course driver is on the right side. I can only imagine trying to manually shift with my left had, lol that would be funny, I would skip or miss gears!

I've been state side a lot on road trips and at first the huge junctions need some getting use to. I've driven in Europe where they are on the left too so it wasn't too bad. Now when I pop state side it's ok. I can switch right away. Love the US hence my USA plate.

if you want rasp go with x pipe...if you want old school sound go with h pipe .... supposedly the X pipe will add a tiny bit more power because it draws the exhaust out of the car ...but to each is own ... its all about sound preference tbh
