Exhaust for 2015 GT

For all of you who have replaced the original exhaust on your mustang, did you keep it or toss it out? I replaced the exhaust, and was wondering if there was any reason for me to keep the original? Thanks!

I kept mine but I'm kind of a hoarder.

Logically I think there are only two reasons to keep the stock parts...

1. The car is some kind of limited edition (like if you did a rear seat delete on a GT350)

2. You plan on returning the car to stock when you dispose of it. Maybe you plan to trade in the car stock, and sell the mods separately. Or you have a lease.

:agree:

If you plan to hold on to the car no good reason. That being said I still have my factory exhaust boxed up in the basement. At this point I have no reason for keeping it other than laziness. :p

Hi there, the S550 GT exhaust system is the hot item now for the S550 V6 owners. It makes their cars sound soo much better. Put it up for sale locally you should ask for $150.

I kept my stock exhaust, but I also debated just selling it. I have a tendency to save all the take off parts.

I kept mine for a little while and tried to sell it. Nobody wanted it, (I was only asking $150) so I threw them out. It took a lot of room in my garage. I did a full catback system.

I found an older guy on Craigslist (70ish) who ordered a '15 Mustang GT convertible before they were on the lots and promptly replaced the stock exhaust with a Borla Atak catback exhaust. After about a year he decided he couldn't stand how loud they were anymore because there's no sound deadening in the roof and didn't want it anymore. We met at an exhaust shop and I paid to have his catback exhaust switched with my OEM exhaust on my '15 GT which cost me $335 in labor and I gave the old guy $200 cash on top. So I paid $535 for a Borla Atak $1250 catback exhaust including installation.

That's awesome! I never find deals like that...

Keep it in case you decide to trade it in.

Do you find this to be a regional demand? Getting an axle-back exhaust this week, and I'll be coming home with a lot of factory parts (2017 hood, exhaust, and the black accent rims with new Pirelli tires). I know I can obviously sell these things on Craigslist, but should I cast a wider net than just locally?

When you go beyond the Craigslist option you have to face the transportation issue. Small items you can drop at the local UPS store for packing and shipment. Larger items can also go there but the price rises quickly with size and weight.

As for the demand for the stock take off exhaust, it seems to be driven by the Forums. If there are a lot of V6 forum members near you there should be a market. If not then the V6 owners won't even know it's an option. But you should join the M6G forum. There are likely more of them in your area than Source members. Post your items for sale there as well as here and Craigslist.

And be sure to post some pics of those Shelby SS wheels. I looked at them recently and they seem to be a decent size.

Awesome! The Ford salesman that sold my car to me wound up getting an amazing deal from somebody on a Borla exhaust for his '09. He started it up for me and it was LOUD! I'm really happy with my Roush AB exhaust. I'm thinking about a new exhaust system for my '09 now. :-)

I don't have any plans to trade in my '15. LOVE this car! I wound up taking the exhaust to the dump (taking up too much room in the garage). I'm actually considering selling my '09 45th anniversary edition though.

The guys at Pearl City Auto Works removed the stock exhaust today. There was some rust and a few places where there was obvious restriction due to smaller diameter pipe used for some components. Then they installed a Borla 140589 Cruiser Catback. Borla uses 300 series SS pipe which contains some chromium (just like the case and bracelet on my Rolex.) The mechanic said the hardest part of the 1-hour job was getting the 4" tips perfectly centered and even. Needless to say, I'm very happy with the install and sound. Nice throaty rumble, and no drone or raspiness.
