5.0 difference between 2012 and 2015

Looking for a new ride and was wondering the merchanical difference between the two years besides the delete of the oil squirters. Question also applies to the 6 speeds between the two years.

I was somewhat dissapointed with the HP increase in the 2015. My 2012 5.0 drives well but would like a little more pulling power in 3rd and 4th so before i invest the money, was wondering are the 2015 mechinacial better an worth the money to buy new

They are almost identical. The 2015 shifter is better, but the engine is the same with minor tweaks.

I have a 2015 Gt and they are not identical to the 2012. I had a 2011. This car drives so much better than the 2011. The engines are very different in that the heads have been redone and flow a whole lot better than a 2012. The crank was also redone and the intake was redone. The drive modes is the coolest part. It's like flashing the computer with a flip of a switch. The sport plus mode is great especially if you bought the upgraded gears. A must on the new ones in regular drive mode you feel like your are driving a caddy. The put it in sport plus and its ready to go. Test drive one and try it out.

With my 2014
I outran a 2015 mustang GT on the autocross course, two weeks ago!
And at the drag strip tonight on my street tires I ran a 12.5 @ 114 mph!
All the 2015's that ran tonight ran 13+ sec.
One 2015 with a tune and exaust, and intake ran 13.01

I recently traded in my 2012 GT Premium 6 speed Manual std 3.31 axle that I upgraded with Ford Racing's Power Pack to get rid of the 104 shift. I bought a 2015 GT premium 6-speed with the Performance Package. With the extra weight but the addition of the 3.73 I'd have to say about a wash in 0-60 times. Biggest diffence is the handling and no more 1-4 shift. The interior is a huge leap forward, along with a huge improvement in handling. Only disappointment is the exhaust. Definetely due for an upgrade. Planning on Ford Racing/Borla S-type cat back.

Yes it can.... But the 2012 will corner better and faster...

Age old argument.. But if you have read all the mags and even ford performance you have to put a ton of money in then new mustang to keep up with the old. Have you seen the rear end upgrades...

I'll keep the better Mustang thankx.

Then why does Ford say, which by law they can not state without proof, that the 2015 GT Premium with PP will be on-track quicker than a 2012 Boss 302, which was Ford's stated goal for the 2015 Mustang? I traded in my 2012 GT Premium with almost every handling option available, and my new 2015 does indeed handle better...and yes, I also autocross...so I believe that settles the argument at least for me. On the other hand I do miss the Kona Blue of my 2012.

All I know is I have not been beat by one on the autocross track or the drag strip!
There was a reason I bought my 2014 after I heard about the 2015 coming out!
When one beats me with similar mods then I will reconsider, till then
SCORE BOARD! 2014!

Looks by all accounts Ford Missed their Mark. You have to do way to much to get the new Car to Drag fast or go around a corner fast.
This is their first year I am sure they will fix the issues like they have in the past. I would never and I mean never buy a first year car from any manufacture.

Umm...last time I checked a stock 14 gt needed a hell if a lot of parts to even get down a track.

The 15 has wheel hop...but other than that it handles better than my 14 with a full steeda suspension.

As in it rides over bumps softer? Yeah, I bet that's true.

OP, there are improvements in the new engine. They are minor tweaks, but the notable ones as already mentioned are in the intake, heads and crank shaft. That's how they now make 435hp instead of the 412 of a 2012. The squirters were removed for 13-14 model years, and rated at 420hp.

But the 15s come with extra 100lbs of weight. That's why your car will smoke a 2015 at the drag strip. And stock for stock the 15 will be a little faster around a road course.

I would say to look for more changes in the next few years.

This year its all about the bew body style and IRS.

Next year it will be about the Shelbys and other performance models.

Then as sales cool off some of the performance mods on the shelbys will start to trickle into the regular GTs during a refresh

at least that is the pattern they seemed to follow with the S-197

I don't really care. My '15 is worlds apart from my old '03, which for an '03 was REALLY nice.(Nice paint, nice interior, nice wheels and tires, nice KB supercharger...etc).

Don't forget about the forged rods, and hyperutectic pistons...
