2019 Shift forks?
 

Copied this from a post in this forum: "From what a few people have said on YouTube.... Specifically a kid who had to wait about 2 months for a new tranny.... The problem was a specific lot of cast forks that were on a specific lot of transmissions early in the production year. From what I gather, Ford found out about it very early on, perhaps as early as January, and the casting quality control issue was fixed. The shift forks were apparently "NOT" re-engineered. The design is the same, but it was a quality control issue with bubbles forming in the castings, causing weak points. That's why that YouTuber had to wait 2 months for a transmission, because it was already on back order and being addressed with quite a few other of the early buyers having issues as well."

I have a 2019 on order and I'm changing the tranny fluid and oil the moment I get home with it from the dealership.

Area5179, why are you changing the tranny fluid and oil so soon?

I've had several people, including some on this forum, who've changed the fluid and have gotten better performance and feel from the transmission. I'll also be changing out the shifter and removing the stock resonator so I might as well change the transmission fluid while I'm under there. As far s the oil, since it's a new engine I'm changing out the oil just in case there are anything left over from assembly.

OK, makes sense then. Peace of mind is important.

I just saw that video on you tube mentioned above in another forrum. I am so hoping this Is not widespread. I went to dealer to ask questions about the 2018 shift forks and they said it's covered under warranty 5yr 60k. But not like a recal. Only if it happens, sux tho to be concerned with that while driving

Although the new mt-82 sounds much improved, I really did not like mine in my 2013 - I never had any real trouble with it, just when I got on it, I would almost constantly be locked out of second or third (or both if I kept trying...) when shifting close to redline, and the clutch would stay close to floor until I pulled it up with my toe... Because of this I never did a drag run in the car at the local strip.

After reading about issues with the new gen mt-82 - I did opt to go with the 10R80 in my 18 - when the transmission is in sport mode - it is very aggressive with shifting, stays in high RPM's when I take my foot off the gas for a few seconds in case I want to continue like that - it almost feels intuitive to my driving style - but with all auto's, it doesn't read minds, and has some shifts I would not have preferred.

I am glad I did go with the 10R80 - the clutch on the 13 was stiff, and I'm actually feeling that my back likes the auto better... I think many years as a kid (10-18) playing football (offensive/defensive tackle) has caused me to want to have an auto - especially as a daily - which the 18 GT is... When I get another mustang, it'll be a Shelby, that one will be manual without a doubt, but it will be a "for fun" car...
