2018GT

I purchased a new 2018 GT just over 2 weeks ago. Black with the only option being the black accent package. MSRP $36,990.00. Paid OTD $34,700.00. Curious if I am the only one that thinks the new for 2018 engine cover is ugly? I removed mine yesterday and have it stored in my basement. Looks much better to me. The GT350 does not use this cover.

Nice. Black with Black accent package. That would have been my first choice for the '17 I got. But they only had white, and I've converted it to a black accent.

What's the engine cover look like on the '18? Did they change it up? Guess I'll have to google it now.

Okay. Yeah. I'd probably remove that as well. I wasn't a fan with all the plastic covering my engine, but at least it shows some of it. Looks like the '18 just covers it up.

That new cover is a muffler to help reduce the ticking noise of the new direct injection high pressure pump. Run the engine with it on and off and you will hear a difference I bet. The cover also conceals all of the new plumbing for the dual injection set up.

I have driven the car several miles without the cover and if there is more noise from the direct injection I have not noticed any difference. Not saying you are wrong. I just have not noticed any additional engine noise.

I took the cover on the wife's '13 to the body shop, and had it painted Candy Red to match the exterior. You could go that route. I agree, the cover on the '18 engine is quite odious.

trying to hide the ugly

That does look better. Thanks for the pics. For now my 2018 engine cover will remain in my basement. The engine does not need a cover just like the GT350.

Was that a DIY project my friend? If so, can you give me some details on the prep. Thanks

Jim

yes it was a DiY project. i masked off the areas that were going to be to be left alone and sprayed many light coats of blue Fuzion paint then block sanded the "ford performance" letters then remove the masking. it was that simple

Thank you my friend. I think even I can do that.

It is really that simple. If you or anyone needs any help just let me know

From out of the past...

That is definitely a pleasing piece of work. Very nice.

My problem is that I want to remove the engine cover so the Sound Tube is accessible for plugging, but I can't see how to do it. Remove the cover, I mean.

Frank, I'll admit I've been quite lazy, and haven't taken mine off yet. However, if it's like the one on my previous '13 it just pops out of the rubber grommets. Basically just pull up, and off it comes.

If you look at the posted photo you have to remove the 2 plugs and then the nut from the stud under the plastic plugs then the cover can be pulled up and off.

There two nuts under two plugs,(one on each side), that need to come off. Once they are off just pull upward and that will take it off. As far as installing a shut off valve in the sound tube, it was very easy and the cost was under 10.00. The photo shows the shut off value, in green, which is a 1' sprinkler type spliced into the system. Here is a closer shot of it. As far as the plugs that hold the cove on, you can see it in the photo as well. Remember on on each side

Gentlemen thank youse. I'll have a go at it as soon as the ambient becomes tolerable.

You can understand my reluctance to just start pulling and prying on things that someone has designed to be the way they are.

Now, about that battery cover...

Yes how about that battery cover. I do not understand covering the battery on a car that quite a few are stored in the winter. I will not be removing my cars battery as there are a few days during the winter that it can be driven. The cover makes it Inconvenient to use my battery tender to keep the battery charged.
