2017 Mustang GT Dreaded Engine Ticking / Tapping

The noise started the day of my second oil change. Took it to the dealership to diagnose and fix the ticking noise. They had it for 2 weeks, changed out lifters, cam followers and rocker arm on the passenger side. Took it home and started the next day and the noise was back and worse. It's going back to the dealer again on Monday. Here are 2 videos of the noise. One is in the drive thru and one in my garage:

Nice looking car you have there.

Mine is 13GT. Started on 2nd oil change too. Found many owners with the same issue, but the dealership didn't have any clue or know what to do. 'It's normal.'

It would make noise when giving gas (like yours) at first. Then at idle. Got worse and louder, it became more of a knock than a tick. Like an old truck.

With only months left to powertrain, I gave final shot to the dealership. Replaced lifters. Still made noise. Ultimately, Ford approved for the shortblock and the tick/knock went away.

It's got to be a design flaw. Has to be. Your dealership seems pretty reputable getting some work done already. I would try and talk them to push for the longblock (vs shortblock) for peace of mind.

I've had a 13 and a 16 and guess I've been lucky. Very strange that it always seems to happen after oil change. I had my 13 completely torn down after breaking a piston only thing I could think of is a chain tensioner maybe? Doesn't sound like a lifter to me more like a chain slapping.

Or an exhaust leak. My 16 was making a very similar noise, it has headers and one of the collectors was loose. I have tightened it and the noise hasn't come back yet.

Thanks for the reply! I will go through my exhaust tonight. I put an MBRP Catback Street series on a few months ago.

That's a beautiful car. Sucks about the problems. You'd think Ford could get that under control by now, that engine has been around a long time at this point.

Thanks! Yes, I can't believe they are still having these problems.......

Wow. They still haven't fixed this issue? I think my dads 1995 Ford Ranger made a ticking noise that sounds very similar. He always thought it was the quality of gas.

I'm going in for my first oil change this week when I get my AC that has already gone bad fixed.
