2020 Ecoboost with HHP - Question on Tires
 

I just ordered one of these, but can no longer just use it as a weekend toy, it will be my daily driver....the good thing is, I am only putting about 2500 to 3000 miles a year on my car, if that much. No longer have to drive to the office, work from home every day and don;t really go anywhere except shopping, Drs visits and family events

My question....it comes with summer Pirelli 255/40/19 tires....I am assuming those would be a nightmare in winter/snow. Since I am not into taking corners and curves at high speed (after all I am 62 now!), I am thinking of switching out the summer tires for maybe the Pirelli All Season tires..........are these among the best....also, if I take my car to a place like Discount Tires, will they give me a trade in credit for the summer tires?

I would go with BF Goodrich, Bridgestone, Continental, Goodyear and Michelin as my top choices. I would definitely stay away from Pirelli altogether, including their all season tires, as they also don't grip very well in either wet or snowy conditions.

I usually buy from Discount tire and currently have Continentals on my GT and like them a lot as daily driver tires. I am not aware of any credit program they have for trade-ins.

I don't think any tire retailer is going to give you anything for trade-in on tires, but I could be wrong . . . you can probably sell them (cheap) on e-bay or Craig's List

Here's another idea: keep the OEM wheels and tires for the summer, and buy another set of wheels with real snow tires for the winter . . . yes it does increase the initial cost, but you'll keep the OEM wheels looking good and you'll be able to switch from summer to winter mode yourself. You might be able to find some OEM take-off wheels cheap to use for the winter set-up (check e-bay and your local Craig's List)

The only reason I ask is that a couple of years ago my son in law took his old jeep that had 2 old tires and 2 fairly new tires on it and they gave him like $25 or $50 each for the newer tires......I was hoping they would do the same for me for 4 brand new Pirelli's with barely any miles on them.....or maybe they just felt generous that day....

I would go with anything but Pirelli's not a fan at all! Michelin's are my favorite go to. :yup:

Your not going to know until you ask. Therefore you have nothing to lose, as the very worst they can say is NO! Also bring up they gave your son in law between $25-$50 for his used tires a couple of years ago that were still in good condition.

If I were in the OP's shoes, I would check my local Craig's List first . . . I have seen complete sets of wheels with TPMS sensors and snow or all-season tires selling for $1,000 or a lot less. I bought a set myself for $400 for all 4; this was for S197 generation wheels that were a couple years old at the time, with Blizzak snows that were about half worn. The S550 chassis has been out since 2015 so there is a good chance that they could be out there.

Very good point indeed! Perhaps the the OP may get more for his low mile Pirelli's on Craig's list than what Discount Tire would give him credit towards new tires, if they even have a trade in policy, to begin with :dunno:

If you use Facebook, their Marketplace is a fast way to move stuff. We recently sold a stove and 2 old (but nice) amplifiers there in 2 days and made $800.
