TPMS Reset without the tool?
 

Just found this post on line and was wondering if anyone has seen or tried it? Does it really work? I will be changing to winter wheels and tires soon and was about to purchase the Ford TPMS Reset Tool, but if this works why buy the tool.

1) Make sure your tires are inflated to the recommended psi. Mine is 40psi.

2) Turn ignition to the on position. If you have a push button start, push the start button without pressing the brake pedal.

3) Push the hazard light button 6 times. The horn should honk and you should see "Train left front tire" in the LCD display between the tach and speedo.

4) Release air pressure in the front left tire until you hear the horn honk. The LCD display should now read "Train right front tire".

5) Release air pressure in the right front tire until you hear the horn honk.

6) Repeat for the the right rear tire, and then the left rear tire.

7) You should now see "Training Complete" in the LCD display.

8) Fill your tires back up to the recommended pressure.

Never tried it but does sound logical... I guess we'll find out if it works or not. ;)

the tool is what? $50? i'd rather buy the tool than fool around twice a year with all that....

Ford dealer said it'd be like $50 to set it up

I swapped my Brembo wheels and tires with Boss 302 wheels and tires. The boss wheels had the original sensors in them. They worked without me doing anything. Never got a dash warning light or anything.

ban sensors will reset mine alway did then I went valve stem got a sync tool from American Muscle easy

Got mine for $35 a while back through Amazon. Works great! Rotated my tire a couple of times with it. Make the programming a breeze...

Got it here and shipping is free. How can you beat that.

So has anyone confirmed this works? I might have to try it tomorrow.

The above mentioned reset without the tool works 100%!!!! Saved me $54 from the dealer doing it and it took 5 minutes!!!!!! Thanks

So I did this and instead of it saying complete it says tires not trained- repeat..I repeated the entire process and still I got the same thing..tires not trained- repeat..what am I doing wrong?

I'm just guessing here but now you might have to drive a little bit for the sensors to retrain themselves. :dunno:

I really don't know; but I have a feeling that "training" might not be the same as "synching." it sounds like "training" is calibrating the sensors for the signal when pressure is low. "Synching" is connecting the sensors in the tires to the system in the car, so they can talk to each other. Just a wild guess, but I'm thinking maybe you can't "train" them if they are not previously synched and talking to each other.

The tool is now under $27, I would just buy the tool. Check the link above.

And the knock-offs are even less (see bottom of Amazon page). But not sure they will do it.

TPMS QUESTION
 

I recently installed new tires and wheels and to my surprise no tpms light. I even started it and let it run few minutes on lift still no tpms light. Once light does appear I will deal with it. I have a way to make it go off. Lol but its gotta appear first.
However the weather is bad here and my 2013 GT has just 135 actual miles-so driving it in snow is out of the question (im assuming light will come on after driving mile or so).
While its on my lift and in garage I wanna install supercharger and do some mods which include a tune.
I would almost bet a Texas farm that the tpms is a separate module and has nothing to do with ECU but......
If when I do get the tpms light-will it effect a tune or hinder someone from installing a tune?
Trying to get my project all wrapped up so come spring it will be done. Thanks.

no, pretty sure the TPMS will not cause any trouble with loading a tune; yes pretty sure it is a separate module

I have swapped wheels and the system automatically accepted the new ones with no synch; I am not sure exactly why that worked that way, but I believe they were OEM sensors (they were Ford OEM wheels) and that might be why they synched themselves with no assistance

As long as the Sensors are Motorcraft they should not need to be trained, both the Mustang and F150 have had new Motorcraft Sensors in different wheels and never got a light.
