Summer Tires
 

I just bought a 2024 Mustang EcoBoost Premium Convertible.The car was used with about 2500 miles and has the 2.3L High Performance package.
It also has summer tires (255/40ZR 19"). I live in Maryland where we sometimes get snow but also temperatures in the low teens and below. Per Ford, the summer tires should not be used below 40 degrees F. Is this accurate? Should I replace them with an all season tire? The mustang is my daily driver and I would not like to have an accident due to tires that were not suited for the weather.
I would hope to get a trade in on my current tires if that is possible, does anyone know or have any ideas/suggestions?

Welcome to the convertible world. :nice: I'm surprised the car came with summer tires in Maryland but I guess the 1st owner wanted them for ultimate traction. Hopefully those 2500 miles were not used burning rubber at every stoplight.. Yeah, you need to switch to a quality all-season tire to properly enjoy your Mustang in the winter and colder temps. The summer tires do become hard as hockey pucks during sub freezing temps. Been there, done that many years ago with my Trans Am. Never again!
My only suggestion is to get quality rubber. Don't skimp on tires and you will be rewarded with years of proper performance without the treadwear, ride, and tramline issues associated with inferior brands.
I always choose Michelin Pilot Sports or Goodyear Exhilarate (have the Goodyears on both my GT and Dodge) and zero complaints. If you can't swing those top of the line tires, I have had no issues with the slightly less expensive BFG G-Force which I have on my Pontiac Trans Am. They took us comfortably all over the US a few years back and handled the wet real well too. All brands and models I mentioned are MADE IN USA too. :patriot:

Thank. I agree I agree and don't know why the previous owner got summer tires, but he did trade in the car after 2100 miles. And I assumed I would need new tires for the winter, thanks for confirming!

If you are going to drive the car though the winter, I'd suggest getting a second set of (cheap) wheels with winter tires, and keep the summer wheels and tires for the summer. This will keep your nice wheels from getting corroded by the salt they use on the roads in the winter.

I would check e-bay and Craig's List to find some used "take off" wheels ... you might even find a set with all-weather tires already on them, for about the same or maybe even less than the price of new tires alone.

Don't Forget About the TPMS Sensors in The Wheels. Some Take Offs May Have Had Them Removed & Replace With Regular Valve Stems which Would Factor into Pricing!

Looks Like Different Cars Use Different Frequencies. So You Would Need To Know Your Frequency & Take Off Frequency if Purchasing Take Off or Used With Sensors. The Vin's From Both cars Would Need To Be Used When Looking Up Sensors on Oem Ford Based Site.

Here is a FORD Parts Listing. You Would Need VIN and Do a Search for {1A189] which is base Part Number for a Tpms Sensor.

good point about the TPMS sensors ... most people who sell take-off wheels and tires don't bother to remove the TPMS sensors, so that ends up being part of the deal ... but yeah you do need to check on that to make sure

If you buy Mustang take-off wheels from the same generation car, which you want anyway so you get the correct offset, usually you will get the TPMS sensors with them ... I believe all of the S550 generation used the same TPMS sensors, but not sure if the 2024 S650 is different. And now that I think of it, since the 2024 is the first of the new generation, there might not be many take-off wheels available for them yet. Also not sure if they changed the offset specs between S550 or S650
