Question on Gorilla Lug Nuts

I recently purchased a full set of the Gorilla lug nuts and locks, in Black. I have read in order for the lugs to torque correctly you cannot have any paint/powder coating between the lug nut seat and the wheel. Has anyone had a problem with this or do you sand off the finish on the end of the lug nut? Thanks in advance for any advice or information on this.

This is in regards to the *wheel* being powdercoated/painted on the lug nut seats. The procedure to get rid of that stuff is this:

Torque them.

Drive around a little bit, come back, take the lugs off, clean out the holes a bit, torque them again.

Repeat until unneeded finish is removed. Done.

The paint/powdercoat will crack under the pressure of being under that lugnut, and the vibrations of driving will flake it off some. A couple or three rounds of the above should get them nice and cleaned out.

DO NOT use solvents or such to try to remove the coating on the wheel. DO NOT try to scrape it out with anything hard like a screwdriver. If you wanna use some scraping action, a popsicle stick or a sharpened, then broken off tip pencil works wonders.

Now if you're talking about the lug nut coating? Don't mess with them. They're fine like they are. You can do the above if you want, but don't intentionally try to remove the lug nut seat material, even in the black. They're made to be used out of the box, no sanding or whatever needed. Just retorque after 25 miles and that should be it.
