AS3+ in Front and Pilot Sport 4 in Rear?
On my all stock 2012 GT I wanted to get the Sport AS3+ (all season) tire on my AMR Charcoal 20" wheels in a staggered configuration.
Fronts - 20x8.5, 30 mm offset, 150 mm backspacing Rears- 20x10, 48 mm offset, 188 mm backspacing I wanted to use 255/35/20 on front which is not problem as Sport AS3+ come in that size. On the back I want to use 295/35/20 - Issue is the AS3+ do not come in 295's . Is it possible to run the AS3+ (255/35/20) up front and use the Pilot Sport 4 in rear (295/35/20)? Looking for suggestions. Thanks - Sean |
Same dilemma here. My situation is even worse where my wheels are wider at 20x9.5 & 20x10.5 which are meant for summer tires & looks trying to fit all season tires because of size limitations.
My research says they will behave differently. Different patterns different materials I would not drive them definitely not safe. For your rear, 295/35/20 will give 28.1 in diameter which is full inch taller than your front 255/35/20 = 27. The ideal size would actually be 295/30/20 = 27 evens out with the front. I see AS3+ carries 285/35/20. The 285 should be wide enough to compensate 10 wheels and would have better grip than 295. Still taller than the front but who cares we have staggs. I am looking at Conti Extreme Contact DWS06 in 265/35/20 & 285/30/20. I really dont want thinner than 35 sidewall and wider than 285 out back though. Looking into driving all seasons long including light snow conditions. I still have Brembo wheels and could swap between summers and all seasons but have no storage for both and is a hassle. What is your reason to chase all season tires? |
Thanks for your thoughts - I am leaning toward sticking with the AS3+ with 285/35/20 in rear and 255/35/20 in front.

That sounds like the safer bet. the 285's fit a 10" rim nicely and there really isn't much difference between the 285 and 295. Either way you will get the staggered look you are after.

be aware, with those sizes, the rear tires will be taller (larger overall diameter) than the front . . . it might not be noticeable visually, or you might like the look with a bit more rubber in the back than the front (viewing from the side) . . . I don't think the difference will be big enough to cause trouble with Advancetrack |
I live in Colorado and weather here can be unpredictable as we already revived snow in early Sept. I don't plan on driving in snow but you never know. I think a All-Season tire would be better than summer tires for me at this time. I need to move to a no snow state!!

A 285/35/20 tire will fit better on a 10"-wide wheel than a 295+
The 285 will fit more square-shouldered. The 295+ sizes will start bulging out the sidewall and actually losing contact patch. |
