Talk me out of staggered
 

I run a square setup, 235/50-18 wrapped on 18x8s. This is my daily driver, doesn't see a track/strip (at least until I retire it to race duty in the future). No plans to upgrade power or brakes while DD'ing. Take the occasional windy road in an "enthusiastic" manner.

Contemplating running 285/40-18 or 295/40-18 on 18x10 in the rear. My commute is short, 6 miles each way so I'm only on pace for ~6k miles a year, so not terribly concerned about rotating tires. I do enjoy the neutral handling of square, but wouldn't mind compensating with beefier sways.

Sounds stupid, but mostly wanting staggered for looks.

I won't talk you out from getting staggered size wheels as I do have 275/35/20 in the front and 305/35/20 in the rears. They just look mean. Like you, I am not worried about tire rotation as I only drive about 6k a year. I got my 14 GT in May 2014 and only has about 6,2xx miles in it. When I need new tires after 4-5 years, I'll just replace all four. Since you are in Alexandria, the pics I am posting below were taken in Alexandria about a month ago.

If rotating is not a concern, and you don't mind getting stiffer rear sway, I don't see any reason to talk you our of it.

I'd love to do it for looks and added straight line grip, but I track my car few times a year, and the outsides of the tires roll over quite a bit. I need to be able to rotate them for longevity. My 275s provide good cornering grip and pretty good grip on acceleration. I may do 285's next time, but still square.

Can't help you buddy. I'm going staggered myself - 19x9 wheels up front and 19x10 in the rear. 245/45 front, 275/40 rear. Mild but subtle; details and pics will be in a separate post.

As for 18x10, the widest tire I've seen offered with them (at least on American Muscle) is 275/40. 295 might be too fat and bulge out the sides. Also consider wheel offset because the fronts might look too tucked in compared to the rears.

Regarding twisting roads, even a mild upgrade in springs and struts/shocks will make a world of difference regardless of how often you drive your car. I've put 3000 on mine since January. I just did a Roush/Koni suspension setup about a month ago and notice a big difference on those twisty roads.

As far as looks, have you considered a complete set of staggered 19s or 20s wheels?

Hey doc97, how wide are the fronts and how wide are the rears? also, what are their offsets? Your car looks great :nice:.

The front is 9.5 inch wide with a 35mm offset. The rear is 10.5 inch wide with 45mm offset. We are running the same suspension, Roush springs and Koni STR.Ts.

If I didn't drive mine, she'd have staggered tires at least, like the '10 GT500 Vert does.

But since I do, I don't.

That's the only reason to talk ya out of it, and if that's all I got... I got nuthin', 'cause you dun said you don't care 'bout the rotating.

I've been doing some math on tire sizes and the 305/35/20 gives well over 28" in diameter. It's also much taller than your fronts. With 27" stock diameter measurement in mind, wouldn't 305/30/20 been better choice and how will the over-measurements effect the speedometer?

With my current tires, the rear is a little bit higher than the fronts. I was looking at getting the Michelin Pilot super sports withe 305/30 rears. But the set costs about 1,600 which is almost twice what I paid for the MT tires. The speedometer issue was resolved by my Bama tune.

I won't talk you out of it either. I have F 19x9 255/40, and R 19x10 285/35. I like the looks, and the grip in the rear. Same set-up as Boss LS. I might go 265 and 295 in the future. Rotation tip: if you get asymmetric tires, you may rotate side-to-side.

That is exactly why I'm doing the same except not too sure about the 20" wheels (too big) and short (but wide) tires. It's low profile and all but the 30-35 sidewalls, how's the ride quality? Do they wear out faster.

Keeping closer to the 27" diameter gives somewhat limited options especially if I want wider tires. They told me that with MPSS's the best to go 295/30/20 on 10.5" wheels 45mm offset, flush. The 305 might rub, MPSS come a bit wider.

I used to have Nitto 555R in 255/35/20 and 285/30/20 using the same wheels. I have since put in MT 275/35/20 and 305/35/20 with Roush springs and Koni STR.T struts/shocks. It is a little bit firm but not punishing. I only have about 2k miles on these tires, so no comment on their wearability. I love the muscular looks of these wheels/tires combo.
