How big is too big (tires)?
Looking to get a new set of rims/tires for my 2013 GT w/ Brembos. I like the idea of staggered to get some meat down in the rear but don't have much experience picking wheel/tire sizes. 10" wide rims in the rear would be cool but is all the offset to the outside? I don't want to have to put mudflaps back there to keep my paint from getting chewed up. I'm looking keep the diameter @ 19". Not looking to get extreme, just put some fatter rubber down.
From researching other threads maybe this size is a good combo? 19x9 wheels up front and 19x10 in the rear. 245/45 front, 275/40 rear. |
You can go as wide as 275/35 or 275/40 on the brembo car 19x9 wheel.
Other than looks, what's your goals for the car? Putting a wider tire in the rear will change the handling characteristics more towards understeer. You can fix that with a meatier rear sway, but if you mainly drive on the street you probably don't need to worry about it too much. You can go as wide as 295/35-19 on a 10" rim if you so choose. On the other hand, you can get square 275 setup on all 4 corners. It will help your launch, and maintain the neutral-ish handling balance, while allowing you to rotate for proper wear. |
My goal is to increase traction in the straight line.

What Monster said about the 295 on a 19x10. I have 19x10 and have a 285's on them. There are some 10.5 and 11's widths that will fit in the rear with the right offset.

Look at this link Scroll down. I'm the Blue GT/CS. My rear offset was a little to aggressive. Mine is 38, but it should have been 40, so there is a little poke from the rear.
"Sticky" summer rubber will help with traction, and the extra width helps too. I'm running the Bridgestone Pole Position. They are harder to break free than the stock Pirelli's were. Look at the summer tires on Tirerack. The Michelin Pilot super sports are highly regarded, but on the higher price wise. |

:rofl2:
I was gonna say 35's are probably a little too big |
That looks like a cartoon car!

I went up one level to extreme performance summer category this year to get more ultimate grip at the track. Ventus R-S3s. Killer deal on Tire Rack. Only $126 each in 275/35-19 |

19x11 would fit great in the rear with offset in the 57-63mm range, and then you could do a 315/35/19 tire :)
When doing different wheels, it's all about the offset. . |

You can do 275/40/19 square set up...probably the biggest that works for both front/rears.

In the back, like I posted above, the widest you could easily go is 19x11, and you could then do a 305-315 rear tire. The offsets on both fitments will need to be specified properly or you might have problems. This is a 48mm-offset 19x10 wheel with a 275/40/19 tire on it on the front of my Track Pack '13, with plenty of caliper and strut clearance: Attachment 184404 Rear fitment on the pic above is same wheel but 20x10, same 48mm offset, with 305/35/20 Nitto NT555 drag radials. Both set-ups right after they were mounted/balanced: Attachment 184405 |

Glad you've been linking your S04s! I was quite happy with them too.

I found a sexy 19x9.5 set i want to pull the trigger on. they come in 35,40, and 48 mm offset.
Anyone know if a 19x9.5, 40 mm offset will work on front and back? :poke: |

I run the SVE drift rims 19x9.5 with a 285/35/19 on all 4 corners.
Fits perfect no rubbing at all with steeda sport springs. |
