Thanks Kendall. I have been considering the V12's for a combo street/ track tire. Cant beat the price and they are probably better than my current skill level

The V12's have been fine on the track on the couple of occasions where we used them. Of course, their limits are lower than some of the more expensive tires but they would be great to learn on as well as perfecting driving skills. For the best track times (if and when you want to do that) you'd eventually want to move up to a more track-oriented tire.

I was also thinking about getting the Hankook Ventus V12's as daily driver and some spirited driving. What do you guys think about the General Altimax HP's ? I will be keeping the stock 19" wheels and wanna run a 275 tire. Any thoughts?

Do you have an opinion V12 vs new BFG Sport Comp-2??
...for track days?

We chose the V12 for an inexpensive, reasonable street tire. We tracked with it once or twice just to see what they would do. They held up on the track, albeit with lower limits than other tires. My pure guess would be that the BFG's would be a better track tire based almost soley on how they are promoting the tire.

The school GTs had the BFG Comp2, I think mostly due to BFG sponsorship there. The FR500 had R1s, but the Boss were on Michelin PS2s.

The BGF Comp2s did fairly well, and the pros/instructors said nothing bad about them. Inspecting the tread revealed lots of corner wear, feathering and cupping, but no chunking. The center tread was in great shape, of course, as those cars had nearly no straight miles, all in the curves.
The pros took us out for demo runs in the school GTs, and mine was semi-drifting at 90+ through several corners, with no real loss of control.

I have the RS3s on my 09 GT, and they do great on the track, are 285s compared to the school GT BFGs at 265s. The RS3 definitely had more grip, and squealed less, but is a much lower TW tire as well.

All the 19" tires are way expensive, though not as bad as the Pirelli Corsas which are stupid rich.
I was just wondering if many Boss or LS owners are downsizing to a 18" for the cheaper rubber, and lighter wheels.

The Comp IIs will be replacing the BFG KDW as the latter sells through. How did the Michelin PS2's do? They are an older design and like the Comp IIs will be replaced eventually by the Pilot Sport Super Sport.
Also - to bad there isn't a Sport Cup tire that could fit the Mustang, GM was able to use them to excellent effect on the Corvette.

I didn't drive the Boss so can't speak to the PS2s, but did do a ride along, and the instructor was hauling. Seemed to have much more grip than a different instructor in the school GT car, but they were also bigger tires. He did get squirrely a few times but had done several hot laps right before.

My father in law had never been on track before, so wouldn't know one way or the other, and the other students likewise had no real prior track time. The PS2s visually looked to be holding up well, with the typical rounded shoulder appearance to the Michelins, but no excessive wear.

For track/steet don't forget the Michelin PSS in the same sizes as the AD08's. They should be better than the stock Pirelli's and the PS2's. I just got a set but won't use them at the track until October.

As for the Corsa's shaving them won't help either. A friend of mine has a shaved set on his Boss and after four track days they started delaminating down the centers of the fronts. Needless to say that was an expensive mistake.

Would you recommend the V12 as the best choice for a replacement street tire when the time comes?

The V12's are affordable but not necessarily the "best".

The v12's are very affordable. Keep an eye on tirerack.com, I've purchased and seen a few times after with up to $80 rebate. I bought them with the $60 rebat. total cost was $740 to my door. Good value street tire that I have run at 2 events. Yes they don't have the best grip, but they really let you know when they are about to go. I have 6500 miles with the 2 track days and they are holding up great. I definitely will be getting another set for the street. I will be looking for some 18" rims and better rubber for my next track day

For the street I think they're one of the better ones overall, especially price conscious. TireRack says the Sumitomo is better though:

They have one on the BGF comp2 as well:

Would you both say they're at least equal to the OEM tires? I had the V12s on my 2010 GT500 and liked them. I felt the tire was superior the the Gen 1 Superslow I mean Supercar tires.

I do not think they are equal in grip to the stock P-Zeros but I don't own a set. I followed another Boss owner, that has the V12's, on a track and where he was slipping and sliding I was hooking up the P-Zero's. The V12's are fine for the street and I would consider buying a set. The AD08's and PSS's are two of the better street/track tires but they don't come in exact stock sizes and they are expensive. Their 265/35/19 and 295/30/19 work fine and lower the car a bit. You'll need 10" wide rear wheels to fit those tires properly (which I have).

I also do not think they are equal but at about half the price of the pirellis, they are a great street tire. At 50 degrees they are useless. It's like driving on skis

Maybe the BFG Comp2's will be at least equivalent to the P-Zeros.

The BFG SC2's look promising and are reasonably priced.

Read a lot of good reviews on tirerack.com regarding the Comp2's. I think that will be my replacement for the Pirelli's. I may have them on the track in October, I'll post my impressions.
