Kooks shorty headers??

Anyone have any experience with these? Any gains to be had? I already have an MRT quad hpipe withe cat deletes.

Will I pick up any power from the kooks super street headers

IIRC they are a shorty length header. You will get some small gain with them due to the increased airflow. 10-15hp probably, a bit more with a revised tune. You will get a good bit more power going with long tube headers, but you will lose a bit of low end torque with long tubes bit with big gains at the high end. People who dont want that bit of low end loss will usually want to go with a short length header.

I suggest you do plenty of through research before buy any header. They are expensive and a pain to install so its something you only want to do one.

They have some pretty decent gains and you get to keep your cats if you have to through emissions testing which is nice. You can combine them with cat deletes to get the full benefits. IIRC JDM did a test on a Boss awhile back and made like 12HP at the peak and 16 or 18HP in crease in the midrange.

They do sound pretty good too if you ask me.

Nice, that's on top of my off road hpipe or combined with off road hpipe?

I think JDM got 8-10hp out of the shortys, 20hp combined with cat delete.

I am also thinking of getting the Kooks I like not having to get a custom tune with them. If you do cat delete wouldnt that require a tune ?

Yes it requires a tune. I'm also on e85 so I already have a custom tune. No worries there.

I ordered the kooks shorty headers and a frpp driveshaft.

Nice man - That video was right after JDM did the install. Jim tuned it right after and i believe it dynoed 430 rwhp with just the shorties and deletes. It was badass and the way the Boss revs i didn't feel any loss in the lowend at all - more than likely it's the way Jim tuned it. Still have them on but now my Boss is FI.

I dynoed 438hp and 398tq with the off road h, ported stock tb to 84mm, and e85

Glad to hear shortys are not a fluke.
Every tuner shop I talk to says don't waste your money

No they're not a fluke. I did it for 2 reasons - gains and the ability to swap out the deletes for my stock cats for inspection. Is/was there a better way to do it here in Jersey ? Maybe, but this will let me go emission legal in an hour(goal number 1). 1-7/8" with future plans to go FI(goal number 2) win/win

everything? I thought you were just installing Kook Shorty headers.
I know exhaust note has changed for the better but what about the way the car preforms.
How does the seat of your pants dyno # feel??
You did thing different than most. You had axel backs and cat delete before you had headers.
I'm in the same boat as you. I also have a set of Kook shorty in my garage for about 3 1/2 years. Just somewhat afraid to tackle by myself and cant see paying $650.

I also installed a frpp driveshaft.

It wasn't too bad. Took me two Saturdays and a Sunday. Left k member in. Kept top studs and used kooks bolts on bottom. Reused all factory gaskets. Used copper gasket for the header gaskets.

The volume has for sure gone up, a little more metallic sounding as well.

It feels effortless accelerating now. Not sure if that's the driveshaft or not.

I'm happy though.

Nice. Interested in what kind of gains you see

I may do a driveshaft when I do my clutch, I think.
