Boss 302 gear swap????
Has anybody done or thought of swapping the 3.73's out for the 3.55's?
If so what did it cost you? |
wait, why?

The 3.73's are perfect for both road course or drag strip on a stock car, but if you mod where you add a decent amount of power, then traction becomes an issue with the 3.73's coming out of corners on a road course, and on the drag strip if you mod the car so it traps more than 121-122 mph it then requires a shift to 5th at the strip, which kills more time than what you give up going from 3.73's to 3.55's during in gear acceleration. Plus with the additional power from mods, with 3.55's you'll be less likely to spin as much when at WOT or in the shift to 2nd. With more power comes less traction. More traction = easier to put to the ground = faster on all accounts. The reason the current GT500's come with 3.55's and even the more powerful 2013 GT500 is dropping to 3.31's as with the additional power, even the 3.55's are too much. |
I have been thinking about doing this myself. It would give me more RPM's before banging the rev limiter on certain tracks with the shorter tires. I have not priced it out yet but if you go down this road I'm in for the results.

Completely out of subject, but you really should trade in that Yellow Blaze and buy a GHIG 2013 Boss to match that '70!!!

The current Gt500 with the SVTPP has 3.73's
Therefore giving it the 3.73 gear ratio to offset the larger rear wheel/tire and equal the 3.55 ratio of the non SVT Performance GT500 |
