[QUOTE]My speculation is the difference will be a big horsepower boost. If the engine is the same as the 302R which I believe makes 450+HP through the restrictors then Ford is holding back on the HP and RPM in some manner most likely as a part of warranty considerations.
There has been talk of a "red-key". Maybe the LS will come with a key that has some type of encryption (or a different ECM) that would allow the engine to operate at full tilt but void the warranty if used? Key-on engine has an 8400 redline and makes 475-500HP?
"Balance is the key on Boss, and even more so on Laguna Seca," said Pericak.[Quote]
Any thoughts on this?

Well it's interesting. In the press release about the engine the following was said-
I know a few people were scratching their heads about the above 7,500rpm's part of that. So I suppose this is quite possible.

“In keeping with the spirit of the original, the new Boss 302 engine achieves its maximum power output at speeds at or above 7,500 rpm,” explains Mike Harrison, Ford V8 engine program manager.

I'm always interested in techniques used to run a business, market products, create a buzz, etc. It makes you wonder how many 'easter eggs' were dropped by ford over the past months about the boss and ls boss.

I imagine it'll definitely be reserved for the LS. For some of those thread contributors that seem to be in the know, they are making references to the red color scheme, and it perhaps having a meaning that is greater than just a loud contrast color.

IF it was for ALL the Boss 302's then it would be HUGE news!

Well, this certainly makes sense and it goes with what I've been saying all along. This is the same engine as the bossR which redlines at 8200. They probably moved the rev limiter back down to 7500 just to be safe, so with a tune or "red key" it would move up to 8000 or 8200. The press release states that it "makes it's power at and above 7500 rpm". Unlike the stock 5.0 this intake is good for 8000 rpm so it will pick up considerable horsepower. I've said before that it dosen't make sense that they completly went through the engine with new bearing, pistons, cams, tune, ported heads, and intake to pick up only 30 HP. I'm just betting with a tune or "red Key" you are going to pick up 50 or 60 HP.
