A few years ago, a Ford rep told me that the Boss would replace the Shelby. Lets see if it really happens.

Now THAT is an interesting concept. And seeing as Shelby is on the verge of belly-up... a Boss becoming the new GT500 would be music to my ears!

Boss will NOT be top dog. Get that clear right now. SVT will have something at the top of the Mustang garage.
For those of you who haven't seen my pics yet, you're looking at a 85% done Boss without the decals and minor touches. Bet against me if you choose, but that's legit. I've attached them so you don't have to jump threads.

Well, looking at the trends from the 05-09 models, the Shelby GT and Bullitt were parts bin specials with minor changes, and I'd guess the Boss will be more of the same. I'm thinking the SVT PP suspension and wheels, minor engine tweaks (302R intake manifold, new tune, higher redline) and the 302R front splitter. I think we'll see some interior changes compared to my pics, as well as the grille matching the 302R as well. I'd expect it to be either a 403A rapid spec package, or a separate trim level between the GT and GT500, but I don't know for sure.

Sounds pretty accurate to me. It will definitely be a special ride, just not worth the extra coin in my case. If I was tracking it or something I'd definitely be all over it

Overboost, I wouldn't be against you, I think you're spot-on
I'm wondering if the Boss will be limited in numbers (say 5000). If that were the case, I can see a big price premium. If the number's aren't limited I'd hope for a price tag between GT and GT500.
I don't think it'll happen, but another option I'd like to see for the Boss is a modern take on the Magnum 500 wheel, kinda like the CS69. I'm a sucker for a deep-dish and I think it'd look awesome with the Boss graphics. I know there's always the aftermarket, but a Boss is one Mustang I'd be reluctant to modify. Just doesn't seem right somehow.

Disappointing if its another parts bin special.

I think it'll be the best NA Mustang ever, no doubt. Just because it uses parts off of the GT500 is nothing to be upset about.

The new CAFE standards will no longer take a fleet average. There are going to be different standards based on vehicle weight. So even if Ford sells a million Fiestas a year, that won't help them avoid fines on a few thousand GT500's, since they will be in two different classes. Having said that, though, the fines are not tremendous. Someone who really wants a fast V8 car will still buy one, and pay the fines that the manufacturer builds into the price. When someone buys a Mercedes-Benz there probably isn't a line on the sticker that says "CAFE fines", but it's built into the price of the car.

Keep in mind, the context of the build is different than they used to be. They're not building them to meet the build requirements for a race, they're building them as a nod back to the previous vehicle. It'll perform, but it might be done a little differently than most people expect.
