What size do you prefer?
With the rumors of a smaller Mustang coming on the 2015MY, just curious which body size do you guys prefer.
From recent Mustangs, between SN95/New Edge or the current S197?
Personally, I am very excited to see what Ford will do with the 2015. However, the more I think about it, I realize that I initially REALLY fell in love with Mustangs when I saw a '05 for the first time. With the right exhaust and wheels, these cars are just menacing on the streets (minus the rear lights
).
I originally wanted to wait for the 2015, but as I think about it, I'm probably going to trade in for a current design GT in the future. I know the next gen will likely be more powerful, but for someone who won't visit the strip, the 5.0 is plenty enough. As for the rumors of increased fuel economy.. well...
So what are you guys' thoughts?

Not even close, if you're comparing similar models and options. The curb weight I've found for a 1988 GT is 3250 lbs, the curb weight for a current 2011 GT is 3650 lbs, depending on options. I've seen even lower curb weights for V8 Fox Mustangs, some closer to 3000 lbs.

I'm all for a smaller Mustang, but I really think that downsizing the Mustang will not be easy. Lighter - yes, that can be done, but to downsize the Mustang much... at least without affecting interior dimensions appears to be quite a challenge. More power to Ford if it can be accomplished.

Less weight will improve fuel efficiency, handling, braking,and acceleration. It isn't as intimidating though, I guess

No I find it easier to pick out who I'm going to pull in front of because they won't get going fast enough when merging into another lane

Don't get me wrong, the challenger is nice...but it would be my cruiser with oomph, not speed machine.
I don't think it'll be massively smaller or anything, but I think if they can shave off a bit of weight and sculpt the car a bit more (trim her up)

With good design, you can decrease the external dimensions without giving up useful interior room. The current Camaro is bigger on the outside than the current Mustang (and a couple hundred pounds heavier), but interior space is about the same and the Mustang's trunk is bigger.

As someone who drove a Miata until recently, and loved every second, I guess I'm going to be on the other side and say as small (and especially as light) as they can get it while retaining the "Mustang" identity. Today's Mustang has a wheelbase which is actually an inch shorter than that of the original Pony in 1965, but it's about half a foot longer and wider overall. I know Americans are a whole lot fatter on average but we should be able to roll back a little of that overhang and a bit of that girth.

The mustang has been a small car since the mustangII. Although I do feel a lot safer in a 2005-present, a small overpowered car is really just more fun. Maybe it's the danger factor that makes my car so exciting, but the newer bodies are just not as fun to drive. IMO.
