Performance tires question
 

I just put on the track pack wheels and tires on my '15 GT, I used to have on the 18" all seasons. My question is this......do the performance tires have to warm up before they stick to the ground? For the first few minutes, I can make that back end go out way too easily. Any insight would be helpful, thanks!

Different tires have different characteristics. I have the Pirellis and they need to be warm then they stick very well.

Track tires need to be warmed up, and no need if you have street tires

In my experience, summer performance tires are a bit slippery immediately after you start driving. Like if you just start the car and then hit the gas hard to sneak into traffic from your driveway, you'll get some squealing, but a mile down the road the same amount of gas doesn't have nearly as much squealing.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that high performance summer street tires do need to be warmed up, but they warm up quickly and just with regular driving.

I agree, some heat in performance street tires helps with grip. I'd say they go from 80% to 100% after a lap or two.

All tires have a temperature sweet spot where you get maximum traction even all season and winter tires.

I've noticed the stock pirelli's really started getting slippery this fall when the temps dropped to the 50°F and below. This is new, < 1,000 miles. I've since swapped out to my winter wheels and the difference was vastly noticeable, winter tires don't break loose nearly as easily in this temperature range and below.

When nice and warm, the pirelli's have very good grip, and don't squeal even when pushed hard. The Pirelli P-Zero tires are consistently in the top of the ratings for summer performance, so it's no surprise they don't do well in cold and I plan to never have them see the slightest bit of snow or ice.
