Performance Package test drive

Today I finally got to test drive a GT with the PP.
Any advice on how to work the transmission? I've never driven a manual like this(it's so different from the manual on my Focus that they might as well come from different automotive eras)and had difficulty shifting smoothly. I think part of my problem was the incredibly short first gear.
Any advice? I know that eventually I'd get used to it(the salesman said it took him a while to get the hang of it) but I was wondering if anyone has any tips?
I'm planning on buying in the next week or so. I've never owned a car like this. But I'm looking forward to it!

So there would be no problem with lugging?

I guess it depends how quickly you let out the clutch. Generally speaking, no... 2nd is still pretty short and more or less in line with what a number of other vehicles use for first in terms of ratios.

WOW! I traded a Focus ST for my Mustang. Other than some notchiness when cold on the 1-2 shift I find the shifting of the Mustang much more precise than the 6 speed in the ST. It was what I expected going from a cable shifter to mechanical linkage.

The shifting is more precise but the gearing is so different,as is clutch feel, that it was making shifting difficult for me. I'm going from a '12 Focus SE to a Mustang GT with the PP. bit of a difference for me!

It doesn't help that the clutch is hilariously vague. Zero feel to it.

I'm not sure about the new model, but 1st in my 2014 with 3.73 is incredibly short too. Most of the time I start in 2nd and it doesn't lug even if I hardly give it any extra gas. Needless to say I'm thinking of getting an auto this time.

I picked up my 16 PP Saturday after selling my 06 GT. The thing I've found with the clutch is that you only need to push it about 1/4 of the way to get it to catch. I am going from a short throw to rowing a boat again so I'm still getting used to that.

The '16's tranny feels like rowing a boat?
