How bad is it? Did you chew up the metal or just scratch the paint?

There are wheel repair companies that will come to you and fix them for less than the cost of a new wheel. One of the ones over by me is WheelsOnSite

http://www.wheelsonsite.com/

One of my coworkers used them on his Rav4 and you can't even tell there was ever any damage. Not sure where you are but there are similar companies all over the country.

Both. It's scratched in some areas, and then there's the metal showing. It's not terrible: just annoying to know its blemished and no longer pristine.

My local car wash has a guy come in every week that repairs wheels on his truck. I have used him twice and they come out looking brand new.

Black nail polish is the answer. Works extremely well. I will post pictures when I can.
Thanks again.

Interesting fix. I am curious to see how that will hold up with the elements and even washing with various soaps, compounds, ect.

I'm probably going to have to keep reapplying after so many weeks.
Time will tell.

I'd say oxidation. You might have had a few chips in the clear coat that let the elements at the aluminum and it started corroding. You might be able to polish some of it out but I wonder how much has spread under the clear coat.
