CAD files for Ford wheels and other parts

Hi all

I have an interesting question. Do CAD file exist for Ford OEM wheels and other parts. I am looking for a CAD file to make a set of these wheels at a 3D printing shop (Shapeways) So I can use them on model cars in 1/24/1/25 scale. Thanks for any help you can provide!

I'm sure ford has them, and I'm equally sure you have a better chance of getting brain freeze in he'll before you get them... You're best bet is likely to find someone with said wheels and laser scan them.

Well these are the same wheels on my GT but have no way to scan them.

So you mean there is a chance. Getting a brain freeze in he'll is only about an hour drive away from the world hq.

The printing shop can't scan anything? Typically they can, and this shouldn't be too big... A lot of places can scan people so size isn't much of an issue.

Got a Kinect (either for Windows or XBOX)? You can use it as a 3D scanner with free software (like Scanect or ReconstructMe), and then clean up the scan in a modelling program.

Here's an example of what I got scanning my bike:

You can get decent detail if you're patient in scanning (note how you can read "HONDA" on the tank). The more you dwell on the subject, the more the computer refines the surface.

It does a fair amount of smoothing, so you would have to sharpen the edges back up probably. Or they might end up printing sharp enough because the small scale.
