Building my new 2017 Mustang GT: /w Roush Supercharger Questions?
 

I have spent many hours researching about the Mustang. This is my first muscle car and i'm just making sure i am making the right choice. DISCLAIMER: I'm a novice driver and if any question appear stupid then i apologize in advance.

My questions are:

-I spent many hours researching the reliability of the Mustang and i am always seeing issues with the transmission. What are your guys opinion on this?

-To current mustang owners: What do you regret about the mustang and what do you love about it the most? (UNBIASED)

-The dealer includes the supercharger with my mustang with 3 year warranty. How will the stock manual transmission deal with the supercharger? I'm afraid it would break easily.

I would find a large empty parking lot & get used to that hp level !!
Things tend to go wrong in a hurry, when you don't know what to expect.

On the transmission, I think most of the complaints came from 2012 and early 2013 Boss owners, who just bought a race car and found it they are getting high rpm lockout. There is general consensus, with some opposition, that this was due to the rotational movement of the transmission under torque with the shifter anchored to the body of the car. There are several products out there to help address this. I chose the MGW shifter, but I haven't had it installed yet. You might want to save your mod money until you drive the car and see what it needs first.

Also I have a 2014, and I have to say I don't really use the Nav. I use Waze and Google Maps all the time. So if I were getting a new car, is have a CarPlay or Android Auto solution lined up.

Finally, while I have nothing against loud cars, I've never been a fan of muffler deletes unless it was for the weight savings in race cars. There are other solutions which are plenty loud but have a more pleasant note for a daily. I can't comment on the S550 but I have the Boss side exhaust with GT500 axle backs and love the sound. You might want to hear some more cars before you select an axle back.

I was convinced that my next car would not have a Nav system since Google/Waze work so well, but when I was in the mountains in North Georgia, there was no cell service in some areas. You could not plot a solution from a phone (but were ok passing through if the route was plotted outside the dead zone).

A car's built in nav still works fine in those no service areas.

Congrats on a great new car. Here is some feedback:

- Trans. The MT-82 is not the best out there, but only in terms of not being able to shift very quickly. It like slower, deliberate shifts with the clutch all the way to the floor before you start your shift. Earlier models had more problems. I track my car, and I've never had any issues since I started driving it in 2013. Take time and learn the proper shifting techniques, it will be worth the effort.

- I knew the suspension setup would be holding me back at the track, but I knew I was going to built it the way I want it. Now after 3.5 years I have no regrets. The notchy shifting every so often is a little annoying, but no big deal. I love the high and free revving motor, the way it handles, 2nd gear acceleration and the sound. I love my car!

- It will be fine. Don't worry about the trany. If you use it right it will last just fine.

Few other notes:
- You mentioned you're a inexperienced driver. Driver modification is the best thing you can do. You're in Ohio, right? Mid Ohio Sports Car course offers advanced driver education including slalom, skid car, auto cross and full track sessions over 1 or 2 days. It would help you experience limit handling and teach you oversteer recovery and control. Ever seen the mustang crashes at cars and coffe? Cocky drivers who can't handle a powerfull rear wheel driver car. THIS TRAINING IS WHAT YOU NEED. With great power comes great responsibility, this training can potentially save your life.
- Are you sure you want to do a Muffler delete? Are you worried about drone? This is going to be a very loud choice.

No disagreement here. I made the assumption that with a muffler delete planned, this car was not going to be used on road trips...

But anyway, OP has not chosen the built in nav, he's going with a Raxiom solution. So to that I say, "CarPlay? Android Auto?" Because no way would I install an aftermarket solution without those options if they exist. An OEM solution would be even better.

And of course if you aren't leaving your home town, Google Maps or Waze is just fine because all you need is traffic.

Thank you for all your freeback. Ima. Responsible driver and will only use the car to commute to work. I have no plans on tracking it or racing. My main concern is the longevity of the vehicle. What exchause system do you guys recommend?

Glad to hear you're a responsible driver. This kind of power and performance will be addicting though, like bezerk said. Even if you don't plan to road race or drag the car, I still think it will be worth taking a more advanced driving course to learn the behavior difference between a front and rear wheel drive car. You can carry over a lot of those lessons to safer driving on the street.

Your car will be a total monster, and it takes a skilled steady hand (and feet) to tame it. Good luck and congratulations on your first Mustang. It will serve you well for many years.

I'll let the '15+ drivers chime in about exhaust preferences. Mine is a '14 and even though most of the engine is the same, the exhaust set up is not.

Having seen an MBRP cat-back system install on a '15 and having heard it once installed, I have no problem recommending that system.
Sounds great, fits great, and on the '15+ cars doing the full exhaust swap is a 10-20-minute job, if you have access to a lift and maybe a buddy or 2 to help hold it in place.

As far as this 727-hp car only being a commuter car, that would be a waste.
Plan on some new wheels and tires with some drag radials on the back, so you can actually use that power and not have the rear tires light up in smoke every time you give it some good throttle.

I will be getting the 670HP version with 3 year bumper to bumper & Power Train Warranty. I got quoted 51k for all the prices and mods /w tax and shipping to my area.

My work commute is literally 10 miles one way. I do not plan to race or track it at ALL! There's always that moment for me when look for cops around and if its clear: I would just floor it to feel the power! Brings a smile to my face :) That's all i got it for, just to enjoy the power/sound of the vehicle. I have been soo bored of my 2015 Corolla commuter and am very happy with my purchase. Sucks that i have to wait 6-8 weeks before the car arrives :(

A buddy of mine lends me his 2016 Camaro SS and its so fun to drive a muscle car. I told myself that one day i will purchase my own! Here i am :)

Hey guys: my mustang is a done deal they are working on it and they are trying to put the mods together. I have been searching ways to "break in" the vehicle. The vehicle had a tag of 6 miles. Any recommendation on how to break in the vehicle?

I don't know much about blowers, but the owner's manual basically says for the first 1000 miles to vary the engine speed and don't tow a trailer. That means if you're taking it home a long way on the highway use a few different gears and speeds.

You will get varying opinions on when to do your first oil change. I did mine at like 4k. Some will say immediately.

Other than that just don't crash it. You aren't giving me a warm fuzzy feeling that you understand how much power we're talking about here so I'm wishing you the best in terms of willpower.

At least for the first 500 miles before you start getting a little heavy on the "GO" pedal. Good luck and enjoy! Should be a fun car for sure.
