I can pretty much get seven months out of the year if I'm lucky. I'm not happy having to put her away but it does make that first warm day in the spring so much better. :)

Yea,

The 2013 / 2014's are dated like a 1969 Mach 1 Mustang.

Does this front end and headlights look familiar?

The '71 dated the '70 and the '74 dated the '73 as well.

I thought I'd toss my .02 cents in. The 05-14 mustangs are retro cars. They harken back to mustangs of the 60s and 70s. The design was dated when it came out. That's why so many people loved it. I love the way the new mustang looks. If I was in the market for a new car, it would be on my short list. I think the 05-14 cars are about more than pure styling. They are about nostalgia for many of us. I had a 67 that never ran right but I loved it. This car lets me drive that car with a modern chassis and creature comforts. I'm not sure that you can beat that no matter how much I like the new car. Yes, my car looks dated compared to the new model. I wouldn't have it any other way.

To me the S550 looks dated but then again it could be the picture here next to the S197. It also seems to me that the 05-14 cars as someone stated were retro cars and to me the 2015 picks up where the 2004 left off. The styling cues from the 2004 are there.

Great post!

I still see every model year on the road, all the time. They all look good. I don't really believe any of them look "dated" I think the rarest of them all though are the Mustang II's. I've only seen one of those in the last 20 years, and it was hot-rodded to hell and back with a huge blower sticking out of the hood.

They are all classics to me. Some better than others, but still classics. The 2015 is a nice car, it's just not for me. I paid cash for my 2014. I could have waited for a 2015 and paid cash for it. But the 2014's styling was what sold me. And believe it or not, when the 2013/14 first came out, I didn't like the styling of the front end. The headlights made it look kinda cross-eyed to me. But it grew on me in no time.

The Mustang is not just a Pony car, it is the ONLY pony car. And it's the only muscle car that's lasted throughout the decades. It's so recognizable it doesn't need a Ford logo on it. Everyone knows what it is just by looking at it.

Well said Mr. V. You hit it right on the head for me. My dad had the 67 and now I have the 11.

RedCandy5.0 Oct 28, 2014 07:47 AM

Its just an Evolution of the design, it is not as drastic as the '14 as some make it out to be.
I seen a '15 next to a Vanquish and they looked very similar with the Mustang having sharper lines. But you can see the '14 starting to take that shape and then just moving it more forward with the '15.

I finally got to see a new 15 race red GT at my local dealership last week and oddly enough it was sitting right beside a 14 DIB GT..

As much as I like the 15 once finally seeing it in person, I carefully did a side by side comparison studying every line and curve between both cars and afterwards I honestly could not decide as to which car I liked better over the other..

As I stated in another thread, I totally agree the new S550 does indeed look so much better in person and if I were able to own more than one Mustang, I would purchase one in a heartbeat..

However I also posted when Ford first introduced the outgoing 05-14 S-197 back in mid 2004, I was instantly so blown away by it's 1st generation retro styling that I didn't hesitate for one moment when I traded in my previous 93 SVT Cobra just in order to get one..

Unfortunately the new S550 just doesn't have nearly the same impact as my previous 2005 GT did that screamed out that I must have one..

As for the outgoing S-197 being dated when compared to the new S550 goes ? That really depends on the OP's interpretation..

Personally I look at the outgoing S-197 as being dated as future classics just as the 1st generation 65-70 Mustangs are in their own right today as far as I'm concerned :D

The S550 barely registers in my consciousness. I might glance at it for a second but my eyes are instantly drawn back to the S197.

Edit, they're both Steedas but Id be careful comparing a vibrant red to a gray tone. Of course you're eyes are drawn to red. BTW the S550 looks killer here to me, better than the S197 which also looks amazing.

Good comparo here:

The rear end looks exotic and far more expensive than the car is. The V6 I saw was the best looking base model since the first generation. It was a good looking car even in the format likely to end up at car rental fleets. This is the first base I don't despise in forever for looks.
And don't even get me started on the interior. I was blown away by the premium GT interior at night, all lit up with the ambient lighting and the premium dash setup with soft touch door panels and dash and with the leather seats just enveloping me.

Anyway if you aren't a believer yet go to a dealer near you that has one and give it a look from all angles. Then walk over and compare it to the S197. I don't mean to disrespect those who own the S197 now, because it's a great car. But this new one makes it look 10 years old. The stance is way better. The flared out rear quarters and tapered fastback, the front splitter, side skirts and rear valance, all much much better looking on the new car. The body of the new car looks like it's sculpted by an artist not just tacked together. The S197 sits too high. And just looks kinda of pieced together comparatively.

Lastly, those who said it looks like a Fusion? :rofl3:

This car is wicked looking, a Fusion is a sporty family sedan that looks so tame after seeing the GT. Check it out for yourself.

Hahahahaha "instantly dates huh?" I think you Fustang guys are trying to hard to feel good about the 15' getting absolutely trounced by the 14' at the strip! But if putting down the 14' helps you sleep better than go right ahead tiger meow bahahahahaha!

I like how you compare the design of the car, execution, fit/finish, and total performance to a single performance measure that only 5% of Mustang owners care about.

And 'trouncing' seriously?

How is this for dated.

JoeMidnight Oct 29, 2014 10:01 AM

the ONLY thing that make the S197 look dated from the S550 is the technology and features packed into the ride.

The cars are completely different. they look nothing alike which makes it hard to compare. I like the looks of the S550 and the S197. it a way I'm really happy that 2014 is the last iteration of the S197 and the 2015 S550 is a complete redesign. it will make my car pop out more from the older S197's.

I like all mustangers as long as they like the 15 model year.
