17' to 20' wheels
 

Hello! So I've got a 2015 EB with base 17-inch wheels. Thinking of picking up some 20-inch wheels.

Question - I plan on keeping my suspension stock. Will I cause any problems by adding the bigger and heavier wheels?

If you go with the 20 inch rims and tires offered on the Mustang (or ones the same size 265/35/20) you should be fine. The overall diameter is basically the same. The tires are much wider but I don't think the steering racks are different between the different wheel options on the Mustang.

I always check the tire size calculator on 1010tires.com when I'm thinking about getting aftermarket or takeoff wheels.

Those 17 inch rims would make nice winter tire mounts if that's something you need where you live.

There won't be any clearance problems, but the car will handle and ride differently, and sometimes not for the better. Going from 17" to 20" wheels will look massively better, but those looks come at a price.

My adventure down the 20" wheel upgrade from the stock 19" PP wheels/tires was not good. While the weight of my 20" wheels were the same as the stock 19" PP wheels, the tires were slightly heavier. Couple that with a more aggressive wheel offset and the suspension felt labored and heavier all around. Additionally, braking performance suffered requiring more pedal effort.

After just a few weeks with the 20's, I swapped them out for a set of O.Z. Leggera wheels matching the original GT PP dimensions, though these are 10 lbs lighter per wheel. I married these up with a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports and the car is entirely transformed, everything is better.

Yes! unsprung weight is a big deal. some GT owners wouldn't think so being it as their cars already have so much power. It still doesn't mean that the suspension and brakes won't work a bit harder to keep them aligned...


I've got 17" OEM take offs as my winter wheels and 19" Performance pack wheels for my summer months. It is a night and day difference. The 19's are amazing!


Even today.... most people don't think twice when it comes to buying tires and the weight associated with them. I can say that when I need to replace my OEM P Zero tires, i'll be looking closely at the weight difference with the next tires and will make sure they are the same weight or lighter!

ive got a set of 20 inch Foose Stallion rims with hankook ventus 255\35\20 front and hankook ventus rs3 285\35\20 no rubbing no issues at all , they are for sale too if interested

Picked up my '15 GT last week. Came stock with 20x9 OEM black Foundry rims (the ones that co.e on the 2015 Limited Edition) and the car feels awesome. Brakes like a champ. Only 265 miles on this GT but feels GREAT and just as good if not better than my last 2013 GT with smaller wheels.

I'm selling my OEM rims as soon as I get my AM rims next week.

Ah, just looked up the offset of the factory 20s. 42.5 - no thanks. I wish Ford would make these stock wheels with lower offsets! Are you keeping your tires too?

Keeping the tires. They are brand new and going on my new rims next week.

Not sure how different the offset actually is compared to other rims but they are situated perfectly and look dam good on the car. I'm on a cell and can't upload pix into here for some reason...pm me with your cell and I can always send you some pix. I almost want to keep them but, for me, I have a hard on for black rims.
