TSB for front end on '11 GT

Im sitting at the dealership as I type this. They are replacing the control arms because when I went over a speed bump even at slow speeds I would hear a thunk. It almost sounded like the car was bottoming out. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

LEwis26 7/8/11 11:30 AM

tsb number?

rcm1802 7/8/11 01:17 PM

TSB 11-7-8

I have this same issue on my 2012 gt but it mostly happens when the temp is over 80 lol I tried to schedule a appt. At the dealer,it's pending.

atrain1975 7/10/11 08:36 AM

I have this issue on my Boss and have separate thread there. There are a handful of other Boss owners who have the same problem. The dealer couldn't (or wouldn't) reproduce the sound when I took the car in. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks Deysha. I went to the dealer today and they will order the parts - this is the first one they have seen.

Hytek 7/14/11 10:16 PM

I have the same sound and didn't think of getting it checked out before I put my Roush springs on last weekend. Am I outta luck now that I modded my suspension?

Are you experiencing the same suspension problems with the Roush suspension? If so, that ought to help isolate the problematic part(s). What did you swap out aside from springs?

Just the springs. I haven't heard it since the installation but that's probably because I don't go over speed bumps fast now fearing I'll bottom out.

I get the noise going over speed bumps at very low speeds; in fact, the slower the speed, the more pronounced the noise.

That's odd I only noticed when going over at idle speed. I wonder if this is 2 separate issues then..

SoCal5.0 8/5/11 07:33 PM

My 2012 is at the dealer for this issue. They had another 2012 that arrived before mine also with the front suspension clunk. They replaced one of the lower arms on that one and are trying to determine which arm on mine is faulty. Hopefully that solves the problem.

SD CALSPCL 8/5/11 09:02 PM

Just so everyone knows, this is not just a Ford thing. My wife's 2009 Passat just had the lower control arms replaced for the same issue. It was also under a TSB from VW. So far, I have not heard the noise on 2011...but, I am listening.

Cali_5.0 8/17/11 05:32 PM

LCAs Replaced

Took my car in on Tuesday morning for the 5K oil service and I mentioned the issue I've been having with noises coming from the front end over speed bumps and driveways. The noise seems to occur only when the car is hot and it also warm/hot outside. My service advisor said that they would take a look.

Received a call from my service advisor on Tuesday afternoon and she told me that the lower control arms would need to be replaced. Today is Wednesday and just got the call that my car ready. Hopfully this repair will stop the noises.

ScottH 8/22/11 04:40 PM

For the dudes who have have this problem, does it sound something like this? Click the picture......

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_IMG_0560.jpg

For the most part, it only does it when the car has been driven for awhile, and it is only the drivers side that makes the noise. The passenger side is quiet.

I have hesitated taking it to my dealer since I am running Roush springs/Koni STR.Ts/GT500 Strut mounts. I just know they are going to blame that for the noise.

11GTBlu 8/24/11 05:19 PM

ScottH -- no, that's not the sound my '11 GT makes. It's more of a clunk.

Just asking but are you sure you installed both 500 mounts with the arrows pointing out?

If the house is a rockin', don't bother knockin'! :rofl2:

11GTBlu 9/8/11 07:20 PM

My dealer ordered me new lower control arms; having them installed Monday. Apparently, build dates before April 2011 potentially have a problem.

UnrealFord 9/8/11 07:38 PM

I've had both controls arms replaced under warranty, and end links

knightrdrx 9/12/11 10:57 AM

that's probably what's wrong with my car only it happens when i hit the brakes sometime....car is at the shop now and i'm waiting for a call..if they don't hear it i'll keep bringing it back.

UnrealFord 9/12/11 11:25 AM

From what my dealer.said, [ The balljoint diameter has been changed] Too much clearances.

11GTBlu 9/12/11 05:21 PM

My dealer replaced the lower control arms today on my '11 GT. It seems like the noise is gone. Fingers crossed.

MyStang2010GB 9/14/11 08:58 PM

My 2012 Boss 302 with just over 2500 miles started making a squeaking noise when going over speed bumps....

Did it fix it? because mine is making those noises too but they are only coming from the front passenger side. I took my car to the dealer and they replaced the strut. The mechanic tested it over a few bumps after and didn't hear anything so I thought that was it:D. Next day I go over a few bumps and everything seems fine:cool: but after a while of driving I go over more bumps and I hear the same noise:mad:.
I had an 05 mustang and never heard anything like this plus a taurus with 300k miles in it and speed bumps went super smooth on this one.

Yeah mine makes a sound like that but without the squeak but like an old matress.

rationallo 10/3/11 09:52 AM

I put about 3500 miles since the lowers were replaced on a 2012 GT, not a squeek, creek or thud since.

By the way, it was louder on the passenger side.

Teco 10/3/11 02:04 PM

This is what I hear when going over bumps but louder. This didn't happen for the first 2 or 3 weeks and has never happened on any other Ford car I had.

Driver Side minimal sound I guess it should be normal.

Passenger Side gets worse when going over bumps.

I just got my car back today they replaced the right lower control arm bushing went over a few bumps and so far so good. Will update in a few weeks.

jackal98 10/27/11 03:00 PM

Bottoming out as well.

I am taking mine to the shop this Monday on this issue. The car is fine on a flat & normal road but drive it over a bump, small pothole, speedbump, etc...the car sounds like its bottoming out. I will print out this article when I take it in.

This is another visit to the shop for this car.

First issue(s) were issues from the fuel filler neck and now this.

Just hit 4,000 miles & seems like I won't make it to 36,000 without multiple trips to the shop.

Got the same symptoms on my BOSS now after 5600ish miles, going to take her in on Monday...

UnrealFord 1/26/12 12:37 AM

06GT 1/31/12 02:20 PM

Dealer is saying it was the front swaybar mounting brackets, supposedly they have fixed the problem. I will drive it for a few days and verify.

Dealer has been very cooperative.

Edit: That definitely fixed my issue; drove it over some rough roads that would produce the sounds, plus the incline in my driveway; completely gone. :)

Ronin38 2/1/12 03:12 PM

Were they bent, cracked or broken? :dunno:

JCruiser 3/2/12 01:43 PM

Guys, I have a 2011 6 cyl, premium w/ Pony Package and I cant even get mine to move that much, and it is quiet. I even had the weight lifter guy come by from next door and try to get it to bounce. My date of mfg was May, 2010 and other than the foam under my drivers seat moving, having a bent drive shaft with ring & pinion gear replaced (excessive backlash), the only problem I have left is a soft delay coming from an anticipated stop to acceleration[6 speed automatic] (example: you are slowing down, about to stop at a red light, then it turns green and you begin a soft acceleration). If you punch it, it downshifts and goes off like a rocket. Any suggestions?

Bring it in to your dealer for diagnosis, JCruiser. If you need further assistance, don’t hesitate to PM me.
